Zinnat Ferdous is Bangladesh’s first ever medallist in the Boxam Tournament

Bangladesh’s US-based Zinnat Ferdous opened her campaign at the Boxam Tournament in La Nucia, Spain with a success and she became the South Asian country’s first ever medallist in the event’s long history.
Altogether 166 female and male boxers are participating at the Boxam Tournament in the sunny Alicante region in La Nucia. The best of the Asians have strong chance to earn several titles and medals in this international competition.
Bangladesh’s lone boxer in the Boxam Tournament, the US-based Zinnat Ferdous faced a local girl, Rocio Sanchez in the first round of the women’s light flyweight (50kg) and she took the lead on the judges’ scorecards. Ferdous controlled most of the exchanges on their meeting against a younger rival and she deserved to win her first contest in La Nucia.
Kazakhstan’s Asian Youth Champion Biybars Zheksen had a tactical start against Hungary’s Roland Veres and they landed similar number of shots in their opener. The 23-year-old Kazakh knocked down the Hungarian and that moment guaranteed Zheksen’s success and full control in this great lightweight (60kg) bout.
Kazakhstan’s Zhandos Kydyraliyev exceeded the expectations in the first round against Spain’s Paris Olympian Oier Ibarreche at the light welterweight (63.5kg). Kydyraliyev used up Ibarreche’s fault in the second round and his knockdown resulted a massive advantage on the judges’ scorecards after six minutes of fight. The Kazakh proved his best ever performance today and his attacking style of boxing caused a small surprise in the session.
China’s Musitafa Muhetaer is a newcomer in the national team from the Xinjiang region but he had excellent technical skills and stamina. The Chinese light welterweight (63.5kg) boxer eliminated one of the top Kyrgyz hopefuls in La Nucia, the ASBC medallist Mirzokhid Imamnazarov in a superb contest.
China’s next Xinjiang-based boxer, Yeerdawulieti Maiyilanbieke overcame Spain’s European Youth bronze medallist Ganda Coulibaly Soucko in the attacks and he made a strong debut in the tournament. Another light middleweight (71kg) boxer, Kazakhstan’s Youth World silver medallist Yelnur Suyunbay shined in the opening day of the Boxam, he bowed out his teammate, Aman Konsbekov today.
Kyrgyzstan’s ASBC Asian bronze medallist Nuradin Rustambek Uulu returned to the national team and he turned up the heat in the beginning of the second round against Spain’s Didac Lopez in time to control their preliminary bout at the middleweight (75kg). The 24-year-old Kyrgyz was too experienced for the Spaniard in this contest and advanced to the last eight in La Nucia.
