Zholaman, Oyuntsetseg sparkle in fourth day of Women’s World Championships
Former world champion Dina Zholaman of Kazakhstan came through with a dominant debut as she decimated Maria Del Carmen Madueno of Spain, 5-0, in the bantamweight (54kg) division of the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships 2022 in Istanbul, Turkey.
The 2016 winner Zholaman, who is also the reigning ASBC Asian titlist, stamped her veteran savvy against the lower-ranked Madueno to cruise to the round of 16 and neutralize the shocking split decision defeat of fellow Kazakhstani star Nazym Kyzaibai.
Kyzaibai, a gold medalist in 2014 and 2016, suffered a slim 2-3 loss to Rio Olympics bronze finisher Ingrit Valencia of Colombia in their light fly (50kg) preliminary battle.
Meanwhile, Mongolia’s emerging star Yesugen Oyuntsetseg landed solid shots against Mexico’s Gloria Fernandez to force an RSC (referee stops contest) decision two minutes and 14 seconds into the second round of their bantam tussle.
Thailand’s Preedakamon Tinthabthai clobbered Zohra Ez-Zahraoui of Morocco, 5-0, even as Japan’s Satsuki Yoshizawa tripped Valeria Arboleda of Colombia, 4-1, also in the bantam class.
In other light fly contests in Day 4 of competitions, four Asian bets finished their opening assignments with a perfect 5-0 score.
Aira Villegas of the Philippines crushed Maxi Kloetzer of Germany; Anamika of India trampled on Eugenia Anghel of Romania; Ruhafzo Haqnazarova of Tajikistan trounced Ayda Santalla of Bolivia; and Aziza Yokubova pounded Jennifer Lozano of USA.
