Young guns as Shanatibieke, Abudureyimu, Rezibieke, Khodzhiyev and Orozbekov were the stars in Urumqi
The 2nd Belt & Road International Youth Boxing Festival took place in Khorgos City and in Urumqi, Xinjiang region, China. Following the finals in Khorgos City, the competition also finished in the capital of China’s most western province, in Urumqi.
The official and full name of the competition was the Belt & Road International Youth Boxing Gala and Sports Lottery Cup, Xinjiang, China International Boxing Invitational. The Chinese Boxing Federation, the Xinjiang Boxing Federation and the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region Municipal Government were the organizers of the Festival.
Altogether 30 youth girls, 43 youth boys and 44 elite men boxers participated in Urumqi, representing 12 teams. China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Chinese Taipei, Tajikistan, Thailand, and Uzbekistan are the attending nations in the event. The competition was divided into four days of boxing and Kazakhstan’s Mr. Kairat Zhumankulov worked as Technical Delegate of the event.
A youth female boxer from the Chinese national team, Zeng Weimei won the first title of the entire tournament, she defeated Fan Huizhi at the minimumweight (48kg) final. Xi Qiaoxian (50kg), Chen Yanfang (52kg), Yuan Mengfei (54kg), Wang Xiqi (57kg), and Wu Yuting (60kg) continued the Chinese dominancy in the women’s youth part of the competition.
Dina Shanatibieke claimed a silver medal in the ASBC Asian Women’s Youth Boxing Championships in Astana earlier this year and she dominated the welterweight (66kg) in Xinjiang as well. Another top female boxer from the host region, the Asian Youth Champion Alimire Abudureyimu used her brilliant style of boxing to win the light middleweight (70kg).
Thailand’s Comthong (48kg), Mongolia’s Enkhtur Tugsbileg (51kg), China’s Jia Lehasi (57kg), Kazakhstan’s N. Amzebek (60kg), China’s Ayi Aersi (71kg) and another local boxer, Zhang Da (+92kg) were the bests in the men’s youth part of the competition.
Kyrgyzstan’s Anvarzhan Khodzhiyev won several international competitions this year including the Shopokov Memorial and the Strandja Tournament as well. The 22-year-old Kyrgyz boy moved back to the minimumweight (48kg) and his tricky style of boxing dominated his final against his Kazakh opponent.
China’s Qiu Weihui had a tough battle against his teammate in the final of the flyweight (51kg) but he managed to beat Wang Xiangkun by 3:2 split decision. Another promising Chinese boxer, Qian Qiehao had a quick success against Chen Xinlin and he won the elite featherweight (57kg) in Urumqi.
Another young Kyrgyz talent, the ASBC Asian Youth Champion 19-year-old Almaz Orozbekov won the elite welterweight (67kg) in the event. Zhang Boxiang represented China in the last Olympic Qualifier and he succeeded against Xu Jiachen once again at the light middleweight (71kg).
Three younger Chinese boxers such as Shen Naer (80kg), the ASBC Asian U22 medallist Askhan Rezibieke (92kg) of Xinjiang and the USA Invitational Tournament silver medallist Abudurexiti Remula (+92kg) won the heaviest elite male weight categories in Urumqi.
