Wu Yu and Yang Liu were the heroes of the first qualifying round of the Chinese Women’s National Games
The Chinese National Games will be one of the highlights for their boxers this year which event is scheduled to be held in September. All of the boxers must be qualified for the National Games through regional and qualifying events. Fujian’s Wu Yu amazed in the final of the flyweight (51kg) against another star boxer, ASBC Asian Women’s Champion Shi Qian and won the best boxer trophy while Yang Liu also impressed.
The Chinese National Games holds every four years in the month of September and the agenda of the multisport event contains various sports including boxing. The last edition of the Chinese National Games was held in 2017 short after the Hamburg AIBA World Boxing Championships.
The first qualifying round was held in the city of Chongqing where 184 elite female boxers competed for the medals and the quota places for the National Games. The second qualifying competition will be coming soon in China while their best women boxers have been preparing hard to the Olympic Games.
Guangdong had two boxers in the final of the light flyweight (48kg) which was won by Xiong Guanxia over Xiong Guanyun. Twenty-seven boxers attended in the flyweight (51kg) in Chongqing which delivered fantastic battles between the best hopes. Fujian’s Wu Yu not only won the gold medal of the flyweight (51kg) but she received the Best Boxer trophy following her success over strong Shi Qian.
Guangdong’s Pan Sumei had a tough final against Zhejiang’s Sun Lingling but she managed to win that bantamweight (54kg) title bout by split decision. Amazing number of 28 boxers attended at the featherweight (57kg) in the Qualifying Event which was won by Xu Zichun of Jiangsu who bowed out Ge Yaqi of Zhejiang in the final.
Sichuan’s former AIBA Women’s World Champion Yang Wenlu won several big championships but she was unable to qualify for the Olympic Games therefore she is keeping her focus to the National Games and other competitions. Yang eliminated AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships silver medallist Wang Cong in the semi-final of the lightweight (60kg) and continued her winning path against a young prospect, Yu Lisai.
Sha Ying of Hebei worked well in the final of the light welterweight (64kg) against Ge Jiayue of Jiangsu and won the sixth title of the event. Inner Mongolia’s promising boxer, AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships silver medallist Yang Liu used her longer reach against two-time AIBA Women’s World Champion Dou Dan and succeeded in the final of the welterweight (69kg).
Wang Lina met in the final of the middleweight (75kg) with another experienced international boxer, Zheng Lu but she controlled all of the exchanges in their contest. Anhui’s Zhang Shujie won the next light heavyweight (81kg) final over Wang Xiaomeng and celebrated her success in the event. Qinghai’s Zhang Yilian was too strong for Zhang Jiajie of Zhejiang and took the title of the heavyweight (+81kg).
