Wu Shih Yi started well in her new weight class at the Strandja Memorial Tournament

Chinese Taipei’s famous Wu Shih Yi moved down to the women’s featherweight (57kg) and she controlled the fight at the 76th edition of the Strandja Memorial Tournament in Sofia, Bulgaria on Day3.

The Strandja Memorial Tournament is Bulgaria’s main international competition and the oldest elite event worldwide therefore such strong nations as Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, China, Chinese Taipei, England, France, Ireland, Italy, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, Bulgaria and many others are there.

Kazakhstan’s Yelyanur Turganova joined the elite age group only this January but the previous youth star has wonderful technical skills and she defeated a Turkish girl, Erivan Barut as first at the women’s light flyweight (50kg).

Kazakhstan’s Aidana Zabynbekova exceeded her expectations and previous level of boxing in Sofia where she defeated her second opponent, England’s Sameenah Toussaint. Her teammate, Rimma Volosenko was dominant against Greece’s Sofia Legaki and she joined the next round at the women’s lightweight (60kg).

Chinese Taipei’s Wu Shih Yi earned medals in almost all of the top events in the recent six years and she moved down to the featherweight (57kg) this month. The 27-year-old boxer controlled the exchanges from her longer distance against Turkey’s Arife Yeltiz Altin and she joined the next stage of boxing.

Uzbekistan’s former Youth World Champion Shakhzod Muzaffarov had a great bout against Ireland’s Patsy Joyce and he used the perfect strategy against his European opponent. Muzaffarov had a strong warm-up, he was sharp from the first seconds and he delivered the best performance at the men’s bantamweight (54kg).

Kazakhstan’s Farrukh Tokhtassynov is a promising boxer at the men’s light middleweight (71kg) and he eliminated one of the top English talents, Patrick Hewitt with confidence in the third competition day.   

The Oralbay brothers, as Nurbek and Aibek both managed their victories in the preliminary stage of boxing and they made a successful step in the third day of boxing as well. Nurbek defeated England’s Boxam Tournament winner Teagn Stott while Aibek was too experienced for Ireland’s Godstime Idemudia.

China’s Wang Zhenwei uses the Strandja Memorial Tournament as preparation for the upcoming National Championships and he bowed out an experienced Kazakh at the super heavyweight (+92kg), Nurlan Saparbay.

Uzbekistan’s multiple Asian Champion Jakhongir Zokirov started strongly against Bulgaria’s Georgi Georgiev and he finished the job in the second round, proving that he is aiming for a title in the Strandja Memorial Tournament.
