Wu Shi Yi, Chen Nien Chin and Aaron Jude Bado were all brilliant at the 13th Taipei City Box Cup

The 13th edition of the Taipei City Box Cup was one of the last preparation competitions before the start of the Asian Games. Chinese Taipei’s Olympian Wu Shih Yi, the reigning ASBC Asian Champion Chen Nien Chin and Philippines’ ASBC Asian U22 Champion Aaron Jude Bado were excellent in the day of the finals.
The city of Taipei is a busy metropolis and a unique combination of the Chinese, Japanese, Southeast Asian and American cultures. The 13th edition of the Taipei City Box Cup took place in six female categories at the women’s light flyweight (50kg), bantamweight (54kg), featherweight (57kg), lightweight (60kg), welterweight (66kg) and middleweight (75kg).
The male boxers were to compete also in six various divisions at the flyweight (51kg), featherweight (57kg), light welterweight (63.5kg), light middleweight (71kg), light heavyweight (80kg) and heavyweight (92kg).
Pin Meng Chieh is a veteran boxer who represented Chinese Taipei in the recent more than 10 years and she reached several excellent results. The 36-year-old boxer was technically brilliant in the final of the women’s light flyweight (50kg) and she triumphed over Chuang Kai Ting.
Wu Pei Yi competed already at the 2013 Women’s Youth World Boxing Championships and she decided to return to the international stage. Wu had a tough Vietnamese opponent in the final, Nguyen Huyen Tran but due to her excellent final round, she was able to win the featherweight (57kg).
Wu Shih Yi, the Tokyo Olympian, controlled all of the three rounds against a tough opponent, Philippines’ Thailand Open winner Riza Pasuit at the lightweight (60kg). Another star in Chinese Taipei’s female team, the World Champion Chen Nien Chin stopped her local final opponent, Huang Yu Ting at the welterweight (66kg).
Philippines’ Aaron Jude Bado, the reigning ASBC Asian U22 Champion, used his world-class footwork against South Korea’s Oh Beom Seok in the final of the men’s flyweight (51kg). The young Filipino could be one of the stars of the upcoming years in our sport and he remained unbeaten in 2023.
Kazakhstan’s Darkhan Duisebay amazed in several of the previous competition and he was able to repeat that strong performance in the final of the light middleweight (71kg) against Huang Kuan Chun. Chinese Taipei’s experienced national team member, Kan Chai Wei had a busy final against South Korea’s Kim Jin Woo while another local hope, He Shap Hui won the heavyweight (92kg) in Taipei.
