Vietnam will send nine women talents to Chiang Mai
One of the promising nations, Vietnam selected only female boxers for the upcoming ASBC Asian Elite Men and Women Boxing Championships which will be held in Chiang Mai, Thailand from November 28.
Vietnam achieved its best results in women’s boxing in the recent 15 years including Asian titles, Olympic quotas, World Youth medals and Southeast Asian Games gold medals. Their ASBC Asian Women’s Boxing Championships in 2017 and SEA Games in 2022 as hosts, supported their rapid development in the sport.
Vietnam earned one gold medal in the last edition of the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships but their star, Nguyen Thi Tam had several injuries in the previous one and half year and she will be missing Chiang Mai.
Vietnam qualified two boxers for the Paris Olympics and most of their team members are talents from the U22 age group in the beginning of the new cycle. Mr. Tawan Mungphingklang, Mr. Nguyen Nhu Cuong and Mr. Pham Thanh Hai worked hard in the previous weeks to develop the young team.
The SEA Games winner Ha Thi Linh is a well-experienced boxer and the 31-year-old pugilist succeeded in the specific Box-off in the 2nd World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event in Bangkok to earn her quota for Paris. Ha Thi Linh will be boxing at the light welterweight (63kg) this time in Chiang Mai where she is a strong medal favourite.
Luu Diem Quynh is another well-experienced boxer in the national team, the 28-year-old middleweight (75kg) star claimed a bronze medal in the last Asian Games one year ago. The third favourite could be Hoang Ngoc Mai at the women’s light middleweight (70kg), she competed in the Qualifiers and other international events in the last six years.
Ngo Ngoc Linh Chi is the youngest in the new elite team, the 19-year-old prospect competed successfully in all of the previous national events in the last four years. The Youth World Championships bronze medallist Nguyen Thi Ngoc Tran joined the elite squad in 2023 and she progressed a lot this year.
Nguyen Huyen Tran represented Vietnam at the featherweight (57kg) in the Asian Games, ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships and in the 1st and 2nd World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Events. She is only 21 but these major competitions supported her development in all fields of boxing including tactics.
Tran Thi Kim Chi (52kg), Ngo Thi Mai Chuc (54kg) and Nguyen Thu Trang (66kg) have less routine in the international events but all of them worked hard to reach the level of the best boxers in Vietnam.
