Vietnam continues the preparations for the Asian Games in Uzbekistan in the upcoming one month
Vietnam’s boxing team will have a long joint training camp in Uzbekistan from July 8 until August 5 which is part of their preparations for the upcoming Asian Games. Vietnam’s delegation contains 14 persons including 10 boxers and their team will use this fantastic opportunity to prepare well for the Games.
Vietnam’s Uzbek boxing coach Mr. Bakhodir Erkayev, Mr. Pham Thanh Hai and Mr. Nguyen Anh Duong will be the trainers in the joint camp, additionally a doctor, Mr. Dao Duc Don will be joining them. The first phase of the preparation will be held in the Yangiabad Sports Base in the city of Angren with some other countries between July 8 and 24.
Team Vietnam will be attending also in a competition during their stay in Uzbekistan, at the Khokim Mayor Cup of the Region at the Samo Sports Complex in the city of Ferghana. The competition will be held for the women boxers in the Uzbek city on July 25-30. The joint preparation will be continued after the event in Uzbekistan until August 8.
Five women boxers have been selected to the training camp including the Youth World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Nguyen Thi Ngoc Tran, Nguyen Thi Hoi and the experienced Hoang Ngoc Mai. Ha Thi Linh impressed at the Southeast Asian Games and she earned a gold medal at the light welterweight (63kg) therefore she is the top name of the travelling team. Nguyen Huyen Tran is a 20-year-old talent in Vietnam’s boxing life and she received the right to participate in the international training camp.
Bui Phuoc Tung had a surprise success in the 2023 Southeast Asian Games where he won the men’s light middleweight (71kg) after knocking out Thailand’s Youth Olympic Games winner Atichai Phoemsap. Nguyen Van Duong was Vietnam’s first male Olympian boxer in Tokyo two years ago and he defeated one of his opponents in Japan.
Nguyen Minh Cuong won the National Championships at the men’s flyweight (51kg) in 2023 and he has the opportunity to progress in the training camp. Nguyen Manh Cuong (92kg) claimed a silver medal in the last edition of the Southeast Asian Games in May, while Vu Thanh Dat is the fifth male member of the team.
