Uzbekistan’s Adkhamjon Mukhiddinov had the chance to compete at the 2022 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Amman at the age of 20 but since then his physical skills developed rapidly. The Uzbek light welterweight (63.5kg) dictated the tempo in the first and second rounds against China’s Dai Zhenmin in the battle of the southpaw boxers. The Chinese boxer looked tired in the third round when his gum shield came out twice due the Mukhiddinov’s punches and the Uzbek marched to the last eight.
Ukraine’s Danylo Dryzhak achieved a gold medal at the 2019 European Junior Boxing Championships and he moved up from the pinweight (46kg) up to the light welterweight (63.5kg) in the recent five years. The Ukrainian used his height advantage to catch Turkmenistan’s Resul Jumayev with jabs in the first round and he had won the opener in all of the scorecards. The Ukrainian had great defensive skills in the third round when Jumayev moved forward more but Dryzhak was too quick for him today.
Uzbekistan’s Youth World Champion and Asian Youth Champion Javokhir Ummataliyev received the right to represent his country in the elite competitions. The 19-year-old Uzbek overcame his smaller Kyrgyz opponent in the attacks and he took the lead in all of the judges’ scorecards. The Uzbek teenager boxed like a real senior and he felt the rhythm of this Round of 16 contest at the middleweight (75kg) from the first seconds to win their meeting against the 20-year-old Kyrgyz.
Ukraine’s Pavlo Illiusha competed at the 2023 Balkan Boxing Championships, the Eindhoven Box Cup, the Cologne Boxing World Cup and several other international tournaments. The Ukrainian middleweight (75kg) boxer was faster than Afghanistan’s Mudaser Naibkhil but his opponent made also a great debut in the international stage. Naibkhil was able to keep the rhythm until the final gong but due the Illiusha’s speed, the Ukrainian won the contest by unanimous decision.
Uzbekistan’s ASBC Asian U22 Champion Farzona Fozilova did not underestimate her opponent from Nepal, the newcomer, Aarati Bhomjan in their women’s minimumweight (48kg) meeting. Bhomjan defeated the Asian U22 silver medallist Susma Tamang in the national selections and she had nice technical skills in the first round but Fozilova’s speed was the key factor between them today. The 21-year-old Uzbek won the first female bout of the entire ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Chiang Mai which was the historic bout without head guards.
Vietnam’s Nguyen Thi Ngoc Tran achieved a bronze medals at the 2022 Youth World Boxing Championships and she was involved to the elite team after that achievement. The currently 20-year-old Vietnamese followed her coach, Mr. Pham Thanh Hai’s instructions and she shocked Ukraine’s Yaroslava Marynchuk in the first round. The referee counted the Ukrainian twice in the first round and after that Marynchuk was more careful in the exchanges but Nguyen had the better technical skills today.
Chinese Taipei’s Chiu Ching Yu is one of the next generation female boxers in their national team who had the technical advantage against Sri Lanka’s Ishara Thushari Perera and she advanced to the quarter-finals of the women’s light flyweight (50kg). Tajikistan’s lone female boxer in the event, the Paris Olympian Mizhgona Samadova defeated Qatar’s Dana Al-Jabor at the women’s featherweight (57kg) but her opponent was able to fight until the last gong. Kazakhstan’s two-time Asian Youth Champion Ulzhan Sarsenbek competed in one Olympic qualification events and the 19-year-old featherweight (57kg) boxer looked stronger in the exchanges than Ukraine’s Karina Vovk. She caught the taller Ukrainian with heavy punches and she proved her development in this preliminary bout in Chiang Mai. Following Sarsenbek’s victory, China’s Cai Yan demonstrated her superb punching power against Chinese Taipei’s Yao Chang Yu in the last bout of the day.
