Uzbekistan’ stars as Gulsevar Ganiyeva and Fazliddin Erkinboyev made strong start at the CIS Youth Games

The Commonwealth of Independent States Games is underway in Belarus where 22 countries are competing for the medals and titles. Uzbekistan’s Youth World Champions such as Gulsevar Ganiyeva and Fazliddin Erkinboyev impressed in the opener of the boxing tournament.
The core nations are Armenia, Azerbaijan, host Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. The guest nations of the CIS Games are Bahrain, Cuba, Egypt, Iran, Kuwait, Lebanon, Malaysia, Mongolia, Oman, Pakistan, United Arab Emirates, Venezuela and Vietnam.
Altogether 20 sports are in the official program of the Games including boxing where youth pugilists from the 2005 and 2006 age groups are eligible to compete. Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are the participating countries in the boxing event.
Uzbekistan’s defending Youth World Champion at the women’s minimumweight (48kg), Gulsevar Ganiyeva opened her campaign with a success over Azerbaijan’s Lala Madatova. Ganiyeva competed in the city of Ferghana successfully only a few days ago but she was fresh enough to win another top bout.
Ganiyeva’s teammate, Zilolakhon Yusufova eliminated a local opponent, Belarus’ Yesenia Bankevich, while the third Uzbek girl, Sitora Bakhodirova bowed out a top rival, Russia’s Arina Makarova at the light welterweight (63kg).
Kyrgyzstan’s ASBC competitor, Zafarbek Kamilov outpointed Azerbaijan’s Ramal Yolchuyev at the men’s minimumweight (48kg) and opened his campaign successfully. His compatriot, Emir Kylychbekov delivered the second Kyrgyz success, he defeated Turkmenistan’s Bezirgen Durdyyev at the featherweight (57kg).
Tajikistan’s best youth talent, the 18-year-old Meroj Sufijonov won an important international youth tournament this February and he dominated his opener against Armenia’s Ovanes Arutyunyan. His teammate, another experienced boxer, Anushervon Fazylov eliminated an Azeri opponent, Subhan Mamedov at the men’s flyweight (51kg).
Uzbekistan’s technician Sobirjon Tastanov eliminated Russia’s Vadim Polovnikov at the men’s minimumweight (48kg). Uzbekistan’s Abdullokh Madaminov was too strong for Armenia’s Voskan Voskanyan 5:0 at the men’s lightweight (60kg) and he also managed to join the next stage in Belarus.
The reigning Youth World Champion and ASBC Asian Youth Champion Fazliddin Erkinboyev is one of the top stars of the Games and the 18-year-old Uzbek controlled all of the three rounds against Armenia’s Armen Poghosyan at the men’s middleweight (75kg) in his debuting contest.
