Uzbekistan earned eight gold medals at the Alimzhanov Youth Memorial Tournament

The Alimzhanov Youth Memorial Tournament was a strong preparation event for the main goals of the youth boxers in 2024. The Uzbeks earned eight gold medals in the competition and became the best team at the Alimzhanov Youth Memorial Tournament.

Kyrgyzstan hosted several national and international competitions for the region’s best talents in all age groups in the recent one year. The Kochkorbek Alimzhanov Youth Memorial Tournament took place in the city of Dzhalal-Abad where all of the boxers had international experience from the past.

The number of the participating youth boxers was 104 in the last 2022 edition in Dzhalal-Abad which was increased to 109 in the new competition. The youth male boxers could compete in 13 weight categories from the minimumweight (48kg) up to the super heavyweight (+92kg) in Dzhalal-Abad.

Kyrgyzstan’s Junior World Championships competitor Ramzidin Urmanov earned the first title of the Alimzhanov Youth Memorial Tournament, he defeated Uzbekistan’s Akhrorbek Raimberdiyev in the final.

The CIS Games silver medallist Zafarbek Kamilov lost his preliminary bout to Tajikistan’s Meroj Sufijonov at the minimumweight (48kg) in Astana in October. The Kyrgyz boy moved up to the bantamweight (54kg) and he was unstoppable for all of his opponents including Uzbekistan’s Furkot Abdunabiyev in the final.

Uzbekistan’s first title was achieved by Sardor Khamdamov, a 16-year-old talent, who dominated the flyweight (51kg) final against a local boy, Damir Safin. Two further Uzbeks such as Ismoil Bakhodirjonov (57kg) and Asadbek Solijonov (60kg) won the gold medals but both defeated their rivals in narrow finals.

Uzbekistan’s new welterweight (67kg) hope, the 17-year-old Mukhammad Ismoilov won all of his three contests by RSC in his weight class and he proved one of the best performances in Dzhalal-Abad. His teammates, Abror Musayev (75kg), Oyatillo Mamajonov (80kg) and Nizomiddin Uktamov (92kg), all used their strength to win the gold medals of their weight.

Kazakhstan also sent a team to the Alimzhanov Youth Memorial Tournament but only one of their boxers, Nurkeldi Zhumatay succeeded. The 17-year-old Kazakh super heavyweight (+92kg) talent defeated a dangerous Uzbek, Mukhammad Tursunov in the final.
