Uzbekistan dominated the quarter-finals but Jordan and Kyrgyzstan won historic medals in Tashkent

The key part of the IBA Men’s Elite World Boxing Championships, the quarter-finals took place in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on Day10. Out of the 41 Asian quarter-finalists 23 succeeded in the quarter-finals and earned guaranteed medals and money prizes in the Uzbek capital. The host country dominated the session but Jordan and Kyrgyzstan both secured their historic medals in this championship.
Uzbekistan’s Olympic Games winner Hasanboy Dusmatov had a difficult battle against Japan’s World Champion Tomoya Tsuboi in the battle of the giants. The bout review favoured the 30-year-old Dusmatov who advanced to the semi-finals of the flyweight (51kg) as first from Team Uzbekistan.
India’s Deepak eliminated the Seed No.1 Kazakh boxer, the defending World Champion Saken Bibossynov still in the Round of 32 and continued his winning path against China’s Zhang Jiamao and Kyrgyzstan’s Nurzhigit Dyushebayev. His teammate, Mohammed Hussamuddin had a tight contest against Bulgaria’s ex-Cuban Javier Ibanez and secured his place in the last four of the featherweight (57kg).
Uzbekistan’s ASBC Asian Champion star Abdumalik Khalakov controlled all of the three rounds against Jordan’s Yousef Iashash and he advanced to the semi-finals as well. The third Asian semi-finalist in this featherweight (57kg) will be Kyrgyzstan’s Munarbek Seyitbek Uulu who bowed out Tajikistan’s Asror Vokhidov. He is Kyrgyzstan’s first ever medallist in a Men’s Elite World Boxing Championships.
Uzbekistan’s rising star, Ruslan Abdullayev had a big heart against France’s European silver medallist Lounes Hamraoui and he joined the semi-finals of the light welterweight (63.5kg). Tajikistan’s first World medallist after the 2011 edition is Bakhodur Usmonov who had a narrow success over Thailand’s Khunatip Pidnuch. The third Asian semi-finalist will be Mongolia’s 2021 ASBC Asian Champion Chinzorig Baatarsukh who eliminated one of the Cuban stars, Lazaro Jorge Alvarez.
India had three quarter-finalists and all of them won their contests today including the 23-year-old Nishant Dev who defeated a Cuban boxer, Jorge Cuellar. Kazakhstan’s first medallist in Tashkent is Aslanbek Shymbergenov, the dominant of his quarter-final over France’s Makan Traore. The third Asian semi-finalist at the light middleweight (71kg) is Uzbekistan’s two-time ASBC Asian Champion Saidjamshid Jafarov who smashed Russia’s Igor Sviridchenkov in a one-sided bout.
China’s No.1 Tuohetaerbieke Tanglatihan won several international tournaments but his success over the two-time Olympic Games winner veteran Arlen Lopez of Cuba was his career highlight. Kazakhstan’s Nurbek Oralbay made a revenge against Jordan’s Hussein Iashaish due to his loss in Amman and secured a spot in the semi-finals of the light heavyweight (80kg).
Uzbekistan’s Lazizbek Mullojonov made a fantastic decision moving down to the heavyweight (92kg) and he had the speed and patience to beat Cuba’s five-times World Champion Julio Cesar La Cruz in their quarter-final. Uzbekistan’s next succeeded boxer was their newcomer, Oybek Jurayev at the bantamweight (54kg) in a bout which he dominated against Spain’s European Games winner Gabriel Escobar. Asadkhudja Muydinkhudjayev (67kg), Alokhon Abdullayev (75kg) and the Olympic Champion Bakhodir Jalolov (+92kg) also delighted the local fans.
Kazakhstan’s duo as Sanzhar Tashkenbay and Makhmud Sabyrkhan opened the Asian campaigns in the evening session following their successes over opponent from Japan and Ghana. Kazakhstan’s silver medallist from Amman, Dulat Bekbauov joined the elite national team only at the age of 27 but he is also a semi-finalist in Tashkent. Following Kyrgyzstan’s first ever World medal, Jordan also achieved a highlight and a historic result. Their ASBC Asian Champion Mohammad Adnan Abu Jajeh won one of the tightest contests of the day against Bulgaria’s Radoslav Rosenov marching to the semi-finals at the lightweight (60kg).
