Twenty boxers celebrated their gold medals at the Pakistan Inter-Departmental Boxing Championships in Karachi

Pakistan’s third top event in 2023 is the 2nd Inter-Departmental National Boxing Championships celebrated its winners in the city of Karachi. Several of the winners from the National Games and the National Championships, including international boxers as Razia Bano, Mehreen Baloch, Gul Zaib, and Saif-ul-Manan won their weight classes.

The Pakistan Navy was the host of the 2nd Inter-Departmental Boxing Championships in Karachi where almost all of their top boxers joined the competition. Pakistan will send one female and four male boxers to the Asian Games and their preparation is in different phase currently therefore they missed the championships in Karachi.

The Secretary General of the Pakistan Boxing Federation and ITO Mr. Nasir Tung was the engine of this national event and he followed each sessions in Karachi. All of the regions, the Army, the Air Force, the Navy and main cities from Pakistan took part in the 2nd Inter-Departmental Boxing Championships.

The elite women athletes joined the male boxers in the 2nd Inter-Departmental Boxing Championships in Karachi to compete in seven weight classes. An Army boxer from the National Games, Ummul Banin was the first female winner, she defeated Seerat Ayesha at the women’s minimumweight (48kg).

Razia Bano represented Pakistan at the Jakarta 2018 Asian Games and she was too experienced for all of the opponents at the women’s bantamweight (54kg). The Commonwealth Games competitor Mehreen Baloch won the title of the featherweight (57kg) while the National Games winner Ifra Khurum dominated the women’s light heavyweight (81kg) in Karachi.

Muhammad Faheem bagged the first male title in the national event, the Army boxer won the minimumweight (48kg) in Karachi. Navy’s Sajid Rasheed was runner-up several times but in the absence of the ASBC Asian Boxing Championships bronze medallist Zohaib Rasheed, he controlled the men’s flyweight (51kg) and earned the title.

Another talented Navy boxer, Aurangzaib defeated Mohammed Farooq and won the busy featherweight (57kg) in Karachi. Army’s Gul Zaib won the National Games this year and he used his nearly 10 years of international experiences to beat Shaukat Khan at the men’s welterweight (67kg).

Saif-ul-Manan had a brilliant performance against Navy’s veteran Tanveer Ahmed and he was able to win another competition after the National Games. Irfan Khan and Mohamed Azhar won the heaviest weight classes in the recent National Games and both boxers repeated those results in Karachi as well.
