Twenty Asians claim medals in Heydar Aliyev Junior Cup in Baku

Talented young boxers from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan seized medals while Tajikistan showed an impressive performance in the Heydar Aliyev Junior Cup 2023 in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Yerzhan Isteleuov (light bantamweight-52kg), Tagir Satayev (light welter-63kg) and Zhassulan Berdaly (light middle-70kg) delivered gold medals for Kazakhstan while Igor Solovyev (light welter), Bekarys Nurmukhan (welter-66kg) and Beksultan Kairatuly (heavy-+80kg) won silvers.

Firuzjon Sadullayev (light-60kg) and Pakhlavonjon Ibrohimov (feather-57kg) captured titles for Uzbekistan even as four of their teammates went for silvers.

The two Asian boxing powerhouse countries also bagged three bronze medals apiece in the tournament for pugs aged 15 to 16 years old.

Kyrgyzstan earned two bronzes courtesy of Alikhan Mairambekov (bantam-54kg) and Mukhammed Alimbekov (light).

Tajikistan sent five fighters who were able to put up a respectable showing despite coming up short of bringing home medals.

The event served as a great preparation for the Asians who will join the upcoming international competitions, including the ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships 2023 in August.

Bosnia and Herzegovina, Belarus, Georgia, Israel, Moldova, and Russia also sent some of their finest junior boxers to the tourney.
