Turkmenistan’s Yakub Meredov did sensational triumph at the Republic of Kazakhstan President’s Cup on Day2

The sixth edition of the Republic of Kazakhstan President’s Cup is holding in their capital city in Astana. Nineteen contests were held on the second competition day in Astana where Turkmenistan’s Yakub Meredov delivered the main sensation when he stopped Kazakhstan’s ASBC Asian Champion veteran Berik Abdrakhmanov.

The Republic of Kazakhstan President’s Cup is traditionally one of the strongest Asian international events where the top boxing nations such as Russia, China, India, Uzbekistan, Thailand, Japan, Philippines and Mongolia are all taking parts.
India has got strong boxers at the light flyweight (49kg) but Nutlai Lalbiakkima is a newcomer in the international level. In spite of his low number of bouts he shocked Thailand’s Giraldo Cordova Cardin Memorial Tournament silver medallist Thani Narinram and defeated his Southeast Asian rival by unanimous decision.
Kyrgyzstan’s Mirlan Turkbay Uulu is member of the national team since 2011 but he is in top form this year. The 28-year-old National Champion delivered another sensation on Day2 when he defeated Kazakhstan’s AIBA Youth World Champion Shalkar Aikynbay in Astana and advanced to the next stage of the competition.
Kazakhstan’s AIBA World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Berik Abdrakhmanov had hard job in the first competition day but finally his hand was raised and defeated United States’ Kevin Montano in a narrow lightweight (60kg) bout. The 32-year-old Kazakh veteran did not survive his second bout against Turkmenistan’s Islamic Solidarity Games silver medallist Yakub Meredov who landed tough punches and the ringside doctor ended their contest still in the first round.
Mongolia’s Rio 2016 Olympic Games quarter-finalist Erdenebat Tsendbaatar is among Asia’s best lightweight (60kg) boxers who proved tough performance against India’s Buntee Singh in the second competition day winning the bout by unanimous decision. The 22-year-old Mongolian returned to the national team after one poor year and impressed in Astana.
Philippines’ Incheon 2014 Asian Games silver medallist and Rio 2016 Olympian Charly Suarez was slightly better than Turkmenistan’s Feliks Stamm Memorial Tournament winner Hursand Imankuliyev which was the narrowest contest on Day 2 in Astana. The final verdict was 3:2 to eight-year older Suarez who eliminated a secret favourite at the lightweight (60kg) of the Republic of Kazakhstan President’s Cup.
Uzbekistan’s AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Shunkor Abdurasulov won their Elite National Championships as a teenager last November and joined to the elite squad this season. The Uzbek lightweight (60kg) boxer found the best fighting distance against Kazakhstan’s ASBC Asian Youth Champion and AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships silver medallist Samatali Toltayev and eliminated a super talented rival.
Kazakhstan’s Hamburg 2017 AIBA World Boxing Championships silver medallist Abilkhan Amankul was highly confident in his opening middleweight (75kg) bout against India’s Ashish Kumar and advanced to the next round in Astana. His main rival in the category Uzbekistan’s ASBC Asian Champion Israil Madrimov landed tough combinations and defeated Kazakhstan’s National Champion Abay Tolesh on Day 2.
Kazakhstan’s ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships silver medallist Yerik Alzhanov moved back to the middleweight (75kg) and did enough to win his opening contest against Turkmenistan’s Youth Olympic Games bronze medallist Nursahat Pazzyyev.
