Turkmenistan’s Rozmetov and Orazbayev are aiming for their second ASBC medals in Astana

Turkmenistan finalized the travelling team to the upcoming ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships which will start in Astana, Kazakhstan with its first competition day on October 23. Turkmenistan’s ASBC Schoolboys medallists such as Daniyar Rozmetov and Alisher Orazbayev will be aiming their next podium places in Astana.

Turkmenistan competed at the 2019 ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships in Ulaanbaatar and their team impressed in the 1st ASBC Asian Schoolboys Boxing Championships in Kuwait City four years ago. Turkmenistan sent boxers to the 2022 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships but in the junior and youth age groups, this will be their return after four years of hiatus.

A former boxer, Mr. Tenilbek Dzhumakulov will be their team manager in the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships. Mr. Maksud Sheripov is the new head coach of the youth national team while Mr. Sapardurdy Bagyyev is responsible for the junior squad in Kazakhstan’s capital.

Daniyar Rozmetov was one of the best boxers in the schoolboys age group in 2019, he claimed a bronze medal at the ASBC Asian Schoolboys Boxing Championships in Kuwait City where he lost to only the eventual winner Uzbek, Khumoyunmirzo Abdurasulov but he defeated a strong Indian. Rozmetov moved up from the 35kg up to the 51kg weight class in the recent four years and he could be Turkmenistan’s medal favourite in Astana.

Turkmenistan’s Alisher Orazbayev won three contests in the 1st ASBC Asian Schoolboys Boxing Championships and he claimed a silver medal. The currently 18-year-old talented boxer moved up from the 40kg up to the bantamweight (54kg) and he has also strong medal hopes in Astana.

Nurmyrat Saparov (48kg) and Mustapa Mammetdurdyyev (92kg) were silver medallists at the 2022 Turkmenistan Junior National Championships but both of the 17-year-old boxers received their rights to participate in the youth age group in Astana. Muhammetguly Yklymov (60kg) had also strong results in the national events and he is ready to be impressed in the upcoming championships.

Abdalla Hojayev and Dayanch Durdynepesov have the best pedigree among their junior national boxers, both earned the title at the 2022 Turkmenistan Junior National Championships at the age of 15. Sanjar Hamrayev (50kg), Jeyhun Dovranov (52kg) and Mergen Hojamammedov (60kg) all have experiences from various competitions.
