Turkmenistan’s Azat Klychev celebrated his emotional success in Astana
The evening session of the second competition day impressed all of the experts at the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan. Turkmenistan’s Azat Klychev is a newcomer in the international stage but he stopped a strong Uzbek favourite at the featherweight (57kg).
Hong Kong, India, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Palestine, Philippines, Tajikistan, Thailand, Chinese Taipei, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, and Yemen are the participating 22 countries in the event.
Samandar Olimov dominated his opener
Uzbekistan’s Samandar Olimov claimed several international tournament titles and the 18-year-old boxer impressed in the first round against Jordan’s Awos Eshish who competed in Amman last year. The Uzbek boxer switched his stance several times which made Eshish’s life more difficult in the second round. Olimov was quicker than the boxer from Jordan and he landed several clear shots throughout the three rounds to win the preliminary bout.
Lofranco won the battle of the former schoolboys hopefuls
Turkmenistan’s Alisher Orazbayev and Philippine’s Reymond Lofranco both competed in the 1st ASBC Asian Schoolboys Boxing Championships in Kuwait City. Orazbayev claimed silver medal there and the southpaw landed nice hooks in the first round to take the lead on the judges’ scorecards. The 18-year-old Turkmen controlled most of the exchanges in the second round but Lofranco caught him with a heavy shot in the end of that period. Both boxers landed several shots in the third round but Lofranco could celebrate his tight success after the last gong.
Kosherbayev won the next contest for the host country
Kazakhstan’s Zhanseri Kosherbayev competed in Montenegro, in Bosnia & Herzegovina and in his homeland during the preparations for this ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships. The 18-year-old bantamweight (54kg) boxer was taller than South Korea’s Eom Gi Yun and he tried to keep his opponent on long from the first seconds. The Korean was a real fighter but Kosherbayev’s technical skills decided their contest and the Kazakh advanced to the quarter-finals.
Azat Klychev stopped a strong Uzbek boxer
Turkmenistan’s Aziz Klychev is not an experienced boxer in the international events but he made a fantastic debut in the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships. The featherweight (57kg) boxer delivered one of the main sensations of the competition day when he eliminated Uzbekistan’s Shokhrukh Abdumalikov. Klychev was confident from the first seconds and he shocked the more experienced Uzbek in the opening minute with his long-distance shots. The 18-year-old Klychev landed the stronger shots as well and the referee stopped the bout in the second round.
The Asian Junior Champion Kalaseeram stopped his rival
Thanaphansakon Kalaseeram won the ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships in 2022 and he returned to the events as a youth boxer. The 17-year-old talent was smaller than Tajikistan’s Damir Muibalikhonov but he used smart boxing to reduce the fighting distance and land shots from various ranges. Kalaseeram was fantastic in the second round and after the third standing count, the referee stopped their contest in Astana.
Japan’s Akito Horie was better in all aspects of boxing today
Japan’s Akito Horie is a strong future talent in our sport and the southpaw proved his skills in the preliminary round of the youth lightweight (60kg) today. The Japanese southpaw had good defense and he landed his jabs and hooks with excellent timing to gain the control from the first seconds against Iran’s Fard Hamed Amirzadeh. The 18-year-old Horie won several national competitions in the previous years and his preparation was perfect for this championship.
Tsai Chen Yu and Ruslan Gafurov were brilliant on Day2
Chinese Taipei’s Tsai Chen Yu had the height advantage against Kyrgyzstan’s Oomatbek Belekbayev and he had the fantastic footwork to land his counter-punches from his best distance. Tsai had similar style of boxing as their Olympian elite boxer, Lai Chu En and his efforts were paid off against the Central Asian. Tajikistan’s Ruslan Gafurov was the favourite against South Korea’s Moon Gyu Bin in the next meeting and he had the lethal shot in the second round which was the first KO of the championships.
Kazakhstan’s Torekhan Sabyrkhan made the first step to his next gold
Torekhan Sabyrkhan is two-time ASBC Asian Junior Champion and following those amazing achievements, he joined the youth age group this January. The 17-year-old boxer competes at the light welterweight (63.5kg) in Astana where he opened his campaign against Iran’s Seyed Ali Akbar Mirahmadi. His elder brother Makhmud is Elite World Champion and Torekhan follows the strong family traditions. The Kazakh put the Iranian under pressure and his performance today resulted an early success for the host nation’s pride.
Kewalin Norasing won the tightest female bout of the day
Japan’s Nonoka Okabe and Thailand’s Kewalin Norasing competed mostly at the pinweight in their national events and the two small girls box each other at the minimumweight (48kg) which was the first female youth bout in Astana. Norasing was punctual in the attacks mostly in the first and second rounds but the Japanese southpaw made a great final period with several clear shots. Norasing won the narrowest female bout of the day but Uzbekistan’s duo such as Robiyakhon Bakhtiyorova and Uzukjamol Yunusova both impressed in the end of the session.
