Turkmenistan unveils its biggest team for ASBC Asian elite meet
Turkmenistan is all set for its return to the ASBC Asian Elite Championships, unveiling its largest national team to date as it joins this year’s edition slated to start later this month in Amman, Jordan.
A total of 16 boxers, including two women fighters, comprise the Turkmenistan national squad for the continental elite meet scheduled on October 30 to November 13.
Former Asian youth silver winner and 2017 elite bronze finisher Nuryagdy Nuryagdyyev will lead the campaign as he competes as one of the medal contenders in the men’s light heavyweight (80kg) division.
Ex-Asian youth silver medalist Saparmyrat Odayev (welter-67kg) and AIBA World Championships 2019 veteran Yhlas Gylychjanov (feather-57kg) will also see action in Amman.
Former two-time Olympian Mr. Aliasker Bashirov and fellow coaches Mr. Annamyrat Sahedov, Mr. Yazmuhammet Pazzyyev and Mr. Serdar Hajiyev selected the national boxers with approval from the new president of the Turkmenistan Boxing Federation Mr. Batyr Ashyrov.
The Turkmen pugilists participated in the first Elorda Cup in Kazakhstan last July and in the FISU University World Boxing Cup in Turkey last month in preparation for the Asian elite tilt.

Men’s 71kg: Bayramdurdy Nurmuhammedov or Shokhrukh Sharipov
Men’s 75kg: Muhammetmyrat Sahedov
Men’s 80kg: Nuryagdy Nuryagdyyev
Men’s 86kg: Taganmyrat Gurbanov
Men’s +92kg: Shokhrat Pirimanov or Baky Toychyyev
