Torobayev and Azizbek Uulu defended their thrones at the Arziyev Brothers Tournament

The Arziyev Brothers Tournament became stronger and more crowded every year since the local organizers launched this international event in Kyrgyzstan. Osh was the host city of the competition where two boxers as Islam Torobayev and Bayaman Azizbek Uulu defended their thrones.

The competition was named after Abduvali and Nurgazy Arziyev who both were key boxers in Kyrgyzstan three decades ago. Abduvali Arziyev was National Champion of the Kyrgyz SSR in the 1980s and he competed at the 1989 Soviet Union National Championships.

The younger Nurgazy Arziyev was National Champion in the independence Kyrgyzstan, he was quarter-finalists at the Hiroshima 1994 Asian Games and at the Tashkent 1995 Asian Boxing Championships.

The regional boxing federation in the city of Osh launched the Arziyev Brothers Tournament in 2010 and the new competition was the 12th edition. Altogether 86 elite boxers competed for the 13 available male titles in Kyrgyzstan which hosted several other events in the previous months.

The first winner of the competition was a young 18-year-old boxer from Kazakhstan, Ramazan Rozybay who defeated Durusbek Aytmatov at the minimumweight (48kg). The flyweight (51kg) is a strong category in Kyrgyzstan, but a 19-year-old Kazakh, Emir Nuranov bagged the gold medal.

Kyrgyzstan’s 18-year-old Ruslan Ernest Uulu caused one of the top sensations of the Arziyev Brothers Tournament, he defeated Uzbekistan’s Asian U22 Champion Mukhammadkodir Mamirjonov at the bantamweight (54kg).

Kyrgyzstan’s duo, Islam Torobayev and Bayaman Azizbek Uulu also moved up one category and both defended their thrones at the Arziyev Brothers Tournament. Torobayev defeated Uzbekistan’s Davlatbek Azamov at the featherweight (57kg) while Azizbek Uulu outpointed another Uzbek at the lightweight (60kg), Bekzod Kholdarov.

Kyrgyzstan’s Mirzokhid Imamnazarov, the Asian U22 silver medallist, had a hard job at the light welterweight (63.5kg) final against Omar Livaza but he managed to win that strong category. Another Kyrgyz boxer, the 20-year-old Ikhtiyar Nishonov knocked out his final opponent at the welterweight (67kg).

Kazakhstan bagged all of the titles from the middleweight (75kg) up to the super heavyweight (+92kg) in the Arziyev Brothers Tournament. Among them Armat Armanuly (75kg), Ilyar Ashirov (80kg) and Damir Toybay (+92kg) all well-known from ASBC Championships.

 92kg: Daniyar Rakhimberdinov, Kazakhstan

 +92kg: Damir Toybay, Kazakhstan
