Torekhan Sabyrkhan and Team Kazakhstan were the bests but DPR Korea earned a historic youth title in Budva
The Asians claimed eight more titles in the second part of the finals at the IBA Youth World Boxing Championships in Budva, Montenegro. The DPR Koreans earned a historic gold medal, Torekhan Sabyrkhan was named as the best youth male boxer while Kazakhstan became the best team of the championships.
Afghanistan, China, DPR Korea, Hong Kong, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Nepal, Palestine, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are the participating 13 Asian nations in the IBA Youth World Boxing Championships.
Altogether 73 nations and 593 boxers are participating in the IBA Youth World Boxing Championships in Budva which makes the event the biggest competition of the globe this year.
IBA Neutral’s Carlagh Peake was patient in the first round against Kazakhstan’s Yelyanur Turganova and she used her punctual single jabs to stop her opponent’s attacks. The Kazakh caught her rival with heavy punches in the second round when the referee from Azerbaijan counted Peake twice. The 18-year-old Kazakh was in her best ever shape in this championship and she switched in time to win the gold medal at the light flyweight (50kg).
China’s Wu Yuting and DPR Korea’s Son Su Rim had similar fighting style and technical skills at the women’s lightweight (60kg) final. Wu started slightly better in the first round but Son remained her chance alive to win this title contest with her impressive second period. The DPR Korean mobilized all of her energies and her long-distance punches paid off against Wu and she earned a historic gold medal today.
China’s Bao Ziyi won all of her recent competitions with dominance and she eliminated Kazakhstan’s two-time Asian Youth Champion Shugyla Nalibay in the semi-finals of the women’s middleweight (75kg) easily. Bao demoralised her opponent, IBA Neutral’s surprise finalist, Nell McLaughlin in the first round and the Latvian referee stopped their unequal contest in the third.
Among the Asian female boxers, Uldana Taubay of Kazakhstan achieved a silver medal at the women’s welterweight (66kg) while Uzbekistan’s three-time Asian Champion Sobirakhon Shakhobiddinova (+81kg) also lost her final today.
Kazakhstan’s Beksultan Boranbek achieved medals in the ASBC Championships but he was in much better form in Budva in comparison to his last international appearance. The 18-year-old Kazakh had better punches than Colombia’s Justin Munevar Moreno in the first round and he overwhelmed his South American rival in the second. Boranbek enjoyed the last three minutes and he earned a well-deserved gold medal at the men’s flyweight (51kg).
Uzbekistan’s Samandar Olimov, the 2023 ASBC Asian Youth Champion, achieved only a silver medal in their Youth National Championships this year but the fantastic boxer received the right to compete in Budva. The 18-year-old Uzbek controlled the first and two rounds in his amazing final against Cuba’s Yojander Fuentes and he earned the title of the men’s featherweight (57kg).
The 17-year-old Abdulaziz Jurakulov moved up to the light welterweight (63.5kg) in the beginning of the year after the Youth National Championships and that switch was perfect for the youngster. The Bornemissza Memorial winner had the advantage on the scorecards against Azerbaijan’s Russia-based Ali Abdullayev after two rounds and the ringside doctor stopped their final bout.
Kazakhstan’s reigning ASBC Asian Youth Champion at the light middleweight (71kg), Oner Seilkhan, made a strong start against Russia’s tall Aleksey Gukov in the first round and all of the five judges favoured him. The 18-year-old Kazakh has nearly 150 bouts already and he choose the best strategy today to beat one of the best Russians.
Uzbekistan’s ASBC Asian Youth Champion Khalimjon Mamasoliyev moved ahead against Iran’s Amir Reza Malek Khatabi to reduce the fighting distance in their heavyweight (92kg) final. The strong Uzbek had difficulties in this contest to find the best range against the taller Iranian but the judges favoured him after the last gong.
