Tokyo Olympians are strengthening Team Jordan at the 1st World Olympic Qualifier
Jordan is a promising boxing country which selected seven boxers for the 1st World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event in Busto Arsizio, Italy.
Jordan had a record number of five qualified boxers in the last Tokyo Olympic Games and their boxers shined in several other competitions, especially at the 2022 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Amman.
Jordan did not qualify any boxers for the Paris Olympics through the Asian Games but the country prepared hard in the previous weeks to be sharp in the 1st World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event. Their coach Mr. Dagoberto Rojas Scott sent the team to Cuba and Spain for training camps where they prepared against strong sparring opponents.
The 21-year-old Hanan Nassar earned a historic gold medal in female boxing for Jordan, she claimed a title at the Arab Sports Games last July and she decided to compete at the women’s light flyweight (50kg) in Busto Arsizio.
Huthaifa Eshish is the youngest boxer in the national team but he competed in the recent World Boxing Championships, Arab Sports Games and other international events. The 21-year-old boxer will compete at the men’s flyweight (51kg) in Italy which will be a powerful category in this upcoming Qualifier.
Mohammad Adnan Abu Jajeh earned two historic results for Jordan in the previous 16 months, firstly he claimed a gold at the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships, secondly he earned a bronze at the Men’s Elite World Boxing Championships in Tashkent. The 25-year-old boxer moved down to the featherweight (57kg) where he is one of the tallest athletes in the whole world.
Zeyad Eshaish has eight years of experience in the elite competitions and the Tokyo Olympian has strong potential at the men’s light middleweight (71kg). His brother, the ASBC Asian Champion Hussein Iashaish qualified for the Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo Olympics but he is still aiming for his third quota with huge enthusiasm.
One of the veterans, Obada Al-Kasbeh joined the national team in 2012, and he claimed silver medals in the history of the Asian Boxing Championships twice which are his main achievements. The Asian Games silver medallist 33-year-old Odai Riyad Al-Hindawi moved up to the heavyweight (92kg) to compete in the qualification events.
