The World Champions as Tashkenbay and Zhussupov will meet for the gold at the Abdaliyev Memorial Tournament
The final line-ups are revealed after the exciting semi-finals at the 43rd edition of the Karakozy Abdaliyev Memorial Tournament in Shymkent, Kazakhstan where several of the World Champions made their way to the title contests.
The international competition is one of the preparation events for the upcoming ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships. The region’s biggest city in South Kazakhstan was the host of the 2013 edition of the ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships.
Mr. Karakozy Abdaliyev was a Kazakh-Soviet soldier who was awarded to the title of the Hero of the Soviet Union in 1943 due to his brave actions in World War II. He was born in Shymkent and the city is proud of his hero therefore the Shymkent Boxing Federation was named its international competition after him.
Sanzhar Tashkenbay, the 2023 World Champion, moved back to the minimumweight (48kg) in the previous weeks and he eliminated Yernar Karap, another U22 boxer in the semi-finals of the Abdaliyev Memorial. The 21-year-old boxer will now meet for the gold medal the 2021 World Champion of the weight class, the veteran Temirtas Zhussupov.
Daniyal Sabit claimed a silver medal already at the 2021 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Dubai at the age of 19 but he was not able to find his way back to the top national team in the previous three years. After beating Turkey’s Metehan Adiguzel, he will be boxing for the title of the flyweight (51kg) with Damir Abdikadyr who also won his semi-final by RSC.
Saken Bibossynov, another World Champion from 2021, used his best long-distance strategy against Karim Serkebayev and he secured his place in the final of his new category, at the bantamweight (54kg). The 27-year-old two-time Olympian is expecting a hard final against Kazakhstan’s two-time ASBC Asian U22 Champion Nursultan Altynbek.
The World Champion Makhmud Sabyrkhan used his powerful close distance combinations against Ukraine’’ Oleg Chulyacheyev and his competitiveness was so uncomfortable for his opponent. The Ukrainian ringside abandoned their contest in the first round and Sabyrkhan marched to the final of the featherweight (57kg) where his next rival will be a “silver boy”, Orazbek Assylkulov.
The dream final of the busy lightweight (60kg) was also accomplished in the Abdaliyev Memorial Tournament following the Tokyo Olympian Serik Temirzhanov and the Asian Youth Champion Biybars Zheksen eliminated their counterparts, Ruslan Kuzeubayev and Talgat Syrymbetov today.
Ilia Kalinin and Bakhtiyar Anarbayev both delighted the Kazakh fans in their junior and youth ages but the 19-year-old talents are now in the elite boxing. Kalinin surprisingly won their semi-final therefore he can make an attempt in the final of the welterweight (67kg) against the Paris Olympian Mukhammedsabyr Bazarbay Uulu.
The two-time Olympian Abylaikhan Zhussupov made a successful comeback in this selection tournament and he can meet for the title of the light middleweight (71kg) Sabyrzhan Akkalykov, the ASBC Asian U22 Champion. The next exciting final will be held between Kazakhstan’s Yerassyl Zhakpekov and Ukraine’s Youth World Champion Mykyta Zasenok at the light heavyweight (80kg).
The 2019 World Champion Bekzad Nurdauletov managed his way to the final of the cruiserweight (86kg) where he can expect a strong resistance from Temirlan Mukatayev’s side. The Asian Games bronze medallist Sagyndyk Togambay (92kg) and the ASBC Asian Champion Aybek Oralbay (+92kg) both joined the finals.
