The winners of the second session advanced to the semi-finals at the Penang Pesta Tournament
The first part of the quarter-finals were held at the 35th Penang Pesta International Tournament in Malaysia on Day2.
The Penang Amateur Boxing Association was established in 1951 and their staff has been organizing the Penang Pesta Tournament since 1989.
Boxers from the U22 age group are eligible to participate in the upcoming event which means the 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007 born pugilists can test themselves in Penang.
The island of Penang is one of the boxing capitals in Malaysia, the region hosted several national competition and international events in the last decade.
The elite male boxers will be able to compete in the following weight categories: 48kg, 51kg, 54kg, 57kg, 60kg, 63.5kg, 67kg, 71kg, 75kg, 80kg, 86kg and 92kg.
Syafi Syamil Bin Ahmad Faizal won the first bout in the second competition day and he needed less than one round to stop his opponent, Santhos Thirumalai at the men’s featherweight (57kg).
Further quarter-finals were held at the featherweight (57kg) in Penang where one of the promising Indonesians as Dafa Farel Azmi defeated a local boy, Mohamad Ezzaniey Bin Idris in the next bout by unanimous decision.
Singapore’s Joseph Nikhil James stopped Muhammad Haikal Hakimi Mohammad Noor in the first preliminary round of the featherweight (57kg) in Penang on Day1. The Singaporean talent continued his winning path against Ahmad Mubin Bin Khalil Yazdani and he won his second contest by RSC.
Singapore’s next boxer in action was Jason Huigen Rongwen who also dominated his fight in Penang as Joseph Nikhil James. The young boxer from Singapore was in different level as his rival at the lightweight (60kg), Arvindra Bin Abdullah and the referee stopped their contest in the second round.
A Malaysian Army boxer, Muhammad Zulhusni Bin Muhammad started well against Indonesia’s Muhammad Rizki and he was able to keep the same level of boxing until the last gong to secure his spot in the last four at the lightweight (60kg).
Chinese Taipei’s Li Bing Hsuan enjoyed his opener at the lightweight (60kg) in Penang where he had a clear success over Skyler Khor Zhan Quan. The boxer from Chinese Taipei will be boxing with Phantharn Chian in the semi-finals of this busy weight class.
