The upcoming Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament will start on April 18
The new edition of the Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament will be held for the elite boxers in Kyrgyzstan’s capital in Bishkek on April 17-23. The registrations are open until April 12 and the first session will take place on April 18 in the five-days long competition.
The team delegations’ handbook and the invitations have been issued both in English and in Russian languages as well. Kyrgyzstan’s main elite international tournament is growing years by years and more nations joined the Shopokov Memorial where the number of the participating boxers are usually 140-180.
The upcoming Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament is a perfect option for the elite boxers to use the event as preparation for the 2nd World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event which will start in Bangkok, Thailand on May 23.
The event was named after Mr. Duisenkul Shopokov, the Kyrgyz hero of the Soviet Union who died during the Great Patriotic War at the Battle of Moscow in December 1941. The new Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament will serve as a preparation event for the 2nd World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event.
The thirteen finals featured in the fifth and last competition day at the last Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament in Bishkek one year ago in 2023. The host country bagged six gold medals in the event, Belarus earned three, while Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Mongolia shared the remaining titles in Bishkek.
Kyrgyzstan sent a team to the Boxam Elite Tournament to La Nucia, Spain where Munarbek Seyitbek Uulu earned a gold medal at the lightweight (60kg). His teammates such as Omurbek Bekzhigit Uulu (86kg) and Sagyn Satybaldy Uulu (80kg) also were medallists in the strongest ever Boxam Tournament.
Kyrgyzstan sent also a squad to the 75th Strandja Memorial Tournament and their lone finalist in Sofia was Anvarzhan Khodzhiyev at the minimumweight (48kg). Following his success over Georgia’s European Champion Sakhil Alakhverdovi in the semi-finals, the Kyrgyz defeated India’s Barun Singh Shagolshem for the gold medal.
Kyrgyzstan competed at the 1st World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event in Busto Arsizio, Italy but the country was not able to get quota for Paris yet. Their national team will spend in the upcoming weeks with strong preparations for the 2nd and last Qualifier.
