The Tleugerey Makanalin Junior Tournament started with 26 preliminary bouts today

The Tleugerey Makanalin International Junior Tournament started with 26 preliminary contests in Kazakhstan today. The new international junior event supports the development of the best talents in the Central Asian region and their neighbours.

Balkhash is a city in Kazakhstan located on the northern shore of the Lake Balkhash in the southeaster part of the huge country. The Lake Balkhash is the 15^th largest in the world and it has the area of nearly 17,000 square kilometres.

Altogether 120 boxers are participating in the first edition of the Makanalin Junior Tournament and strong countries sent their teams to Balkhash. Armenia, China, the regions of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Russia and Uzbekistan are competing in this important junior tournament.

The pinweight (46kg) and the featherweight (57kg) are the most crowded categories in the Makanalin Junior Tournament, both have 14 boxers on the entry sheets. Boxers who were born in 2007 and in 2008 are allowed to compete in the Makanalin Junior Tournament.

Mr. Tleugerey Makanalin was the Master of the Sports in the Soviet Union and he became the first President in Balkhash Boxing. He worked hard to the development of boxing in the city and the competition remembers to his greatness.

The Makanalin Junior Tournament is one of the preparation competitions for the upcoming ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships which also be held in Kazakhstan starting from July 14.

The 13 finals from the pinweight (46kg) up to the heavyweight (+80kg) are scheduled to be held in the event on June 8.
