The Syrian Arab Boxing Association focuses to their youth age group and manages the new generation of boxers
The Syrians returned to their national training center still in summer period on June and their boxers have been preparing hard to the upcoming goals. Their management hosted two national events in the recent months, focuses to the youth age group and plans further sparring competitions and events for the younger boxers.
The Syrian Youth National Championships was held in Latakia still in February before the Covid-19 pandemic but the country is planning to continue hosting national events. Their next generation amazed the experts and Syria hopes that it will be a start of a new era managing the youth age group professionally.
The Syrian Arab Boxing Association hosted its first National Test Sparring Event in Damascus on July which is part of the series of their competitions. Some of their top stars had to miss the July event but the next generation of the Syrian boxers shined in the opening national event. After the quarantine, the first Test Sparring Event in the country supported the preparation of their boxers.
Their second national event was held in September when 39 of their best elite and youth boxers attended in the top competition. Syria’s experienced trio as Islamic Solidarity Games winner Hussin Al-Masri, Alaaldin Ghossoun and Mohamed Moulayes all won their weight classes. Mohamed Kheir Mousatat also returned in good shape and won the light welterweight (64kg) in Damascus. The competition venue of the Syrian National Test Sparring Event took place in the Boxing Hall of the Alfeayhaa Sport Complex in their capital city.
The President of the Syrian Arab Boxing Association Mr. Mohamed Kamel Shbib followed all of the bouts in both of the events and he controls the training sessions and preparations of the team. The management of the Syrian Arab Boxing Association focuses mainly to the youth age group where they have strong talents who could be exceptional already in the 2021 international competitions.
Two-time Youth National Champion 18-year-old Jaafar Ismaiel defeated his rivals in both of the national events in July and in September. The welterweight (69kg) boxer is one of the biggest Syrian talents of the recent years who keeps his focus on the 2021 AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships and on the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Yousef Al-Majri is 19, just a new addition to their elite team but he proved strong developments and won the bouts at the middleweight (75kg) in the absence of ASBC Asian Boxing Championships bronze medallist Ahmad Ghossoun. Among the 2003 born boxers, Youth National Champion 17-year-old Farooq Jenidi is their No.1 who proved his strength and technical skills in the recent two events.
Their best year in the decade was 2017 when Syria claimed medals in the Tashkent 2017 ASBC Asian Boxing Championships and also at the Islamic Solidarity Games. Their target is to reach the same strong results in the upcoming years especially in the 2022 Asian Games and in the Qualifiers of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
