The Saudi Arabian National Games turned to its final stage
The boxing event of the Saudi Arabian National Games turned to its final stage in Riyadh where the country’s best youth and elite boxers are aiming for the titles.
The Saudi Arabian National Games is a multisport event with the participation of 9,000 female and male athletes in 53 sports. More than 200 sport clubs are attending in the National Games from all regions of the developing country.
Mr. Kevin Smith, the Technical Director and the head coach of the Saudi Arabian national boxing team, has been following all of the bouts to select the best talents for the upcoming international events as the Youth World Boxing Championships and the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships.
The Saudi Arabian female boxers competed in the Arab Sports Games and the Asian Games therefore some of them have now international routine as well. One of their aces, Hadeel Ashour used up these experiences to beat another national team member, Raghad Al-Naimi and she will face for the gold of the women’s lightweight (60kg) with Noura Al-Mutairi.
Nawaf Al-Johani is one of the top Saudi youth boxers who eliminated Basil Saad Al-Maliki in the semi-finals of the flyweight (51kg) in the Games. He will now meet Muhammad Majrashi for the gold medal who had a stoppage success in the third day of boxing.
Adel Al-Mutairi had a hard job against Abed Al-Zharni in the last four at the men’s youth featherweight (57kg) but his 3:2 split decision success means that he will be able to meet for the gold medal Yazan Al-Ghamdi.
Rayan Awaji outpointed Bader Abdulrahman Al-Salmi at the youth light welterweight (63.5kg) but Mahmoud El-Kastawy also proved his future potential in this age group and he joined the final of the middleweight (75kg).
One of their new elite boxers, Abdelkarim Zridy not only controlled the first round against Ali Khalaf but he stopped his opponent in the second round. The lightweight (60kg) boxer will be boxing for the gold medal with Musa Al-Husawi who bowed out Thamer Almatrfi in the third competition day. Hassan Kaabi competed in several regional and national events and those experiences paid off in the semi-final of the light middleweight (71kg) against Sultan Felemban. Another ace in the men’s elite part of the National Games, Mohammed Alsubhi stopped his semi-final rival Abdullah Al-Ghamdi at the cruiserweight (86kg).
