The Paris Olympian Mizhgona Samadova and young hopes shined at the Tajikistan Elite National Championships
Nineteen boxers celebrated their gold medals after the finals of the Tajikistan Elite National Championships which was held in Dushanbe.
The Tajiks competed in the last edition of the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships with successes two years ago and their new National Championships was a selection for the upcoming event. The Tajiks are planning to send a huge delegation to the upcoming ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships where they have medal expectations.
The Asian Games winner Davlat Boltayev claimed a bronze medal at the recent Paris Olympics but he missed the National Championships in Dushanbe. Altogether 19 female and 77 male boxers competed for the medals in the Tajikistan National Championships and some of their stars were absent.
Khatlon region’s Shukrona Shovaliyeva won the first female final, she stopped Zafar Mekhronai and claimed the title at the light flyweight (50kg). Their Rukhafzo Khaknazarova almost qualified for the Paris Olympics and she made a strong debut in her new category, at the bantamweight (54kg).
Mizhgona Samadova was the first Tajik girl who qualified for the Olympics after Mavzuna Chorieva’s bronze medal in London 2012. Samadova defended her throne at the featherweight (57kg) while their further top international boxers, the ASBC medallist Shoira Zulkaynarova (60kg) and Nilufar Boboyorova (63kg) both earned gold medals.
Dushanbe’s promising Mekhron Shafiyev moved back to the men’s minimumweight (48kg) and he finished his job against Asliddin Bukhoriyev with a quick RSC success. Badakhshan’s Firdavs Arifov (51kg) and the returning Izatullo Aliyev (54kg) both won their weight categories in the National Championships.
The ASBC U22 medallist Khusravkhon Rakhimov prepared to the Nationals in various tournaments in Kazakhstan and his hard work paid off in the final of the featherweight (57kg) against Ziyovuddin Bakhriddini.
Their two-time Olympian star Bakhodur Usmonov was not able to fight in the semi-finals of the light welterweight (63.5kg) therefore Fayzali Gulomov bagged the title in his absence. Shukhrat Salomatov exceeded the expectations in the final of the welterweight (67kg) and triumphed over Sino Sobirov.
Shakhobdzhon Shukurov returned from Russia to his homeland and he defeated all of his rivals at the light middleweight (71kg), including Murodzhon Ashuraliyev. One of the Tajik veterans, the 32-year-old Bakhtiyor Mirzomukhammadi enjoyed the competition and his 14 years of international routine was too much for Usmonjon Kayumov.
Abdumalik Boltayev has also experience from the ASBC events and he had the skills to beat a younger U22 boxer, Shakhboz Khaitov at the light heavyweight (80kg). The former Junior World bronze medallist Akhmadjon Saidov is back on track after a few years and he dominated his final against Asrorkhudja Rizayev.
Dushanbe’s Parviz Karimov moved up to the heavyweight (92kg) and he achieved his next national title against Khaydar Sangakov. Dushanbe’s 19-year-old Parviz Akhmedov Jr. progressed well in the previous months and he defeated Amirbek Jurabekov to take his first super heavyweight (+92kg) national title.
