The Official Draw reveals that finally 110 Asian boxers will be attending in the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships
The Official Draw was held in the Duna Arena which is the venue of the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships in Budapest. Altogether 110 Asian boxers are attending in the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships out of the total number of 361 athletes.
AIBA changed the name of this 17-18 year-old age group from junior to youth in 2008 therefore the first edition of the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships was held 10 years ago in Guadalajara. Since then four European cities such as Baku, Yerevan, Sofia and St. Petersburg hosted the men’s part of the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships and the event arrived to Budapest now.
Kazakhstan, India and Uzbekistan are the Top3 nations in the ranking of the men competitions of the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships from our continent while India, China and Kazakhstan are the bests in the history of the women events. Strong 46 Asian women boxers and 64 men athletes will be fighting for the medals of the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships which means our continent has got 110 chances to get good results in Budapest.
Kazakhstan’s Anel Kudaybergen is a secret favourite at the women’s light flyweight (48kg) where she starts with a host boxer Dominika Vital in Budapest. Her teammate ASBC Asian Youth Champion Zhansaya Abdraimova will face as first with Germany’s Cathy Jean Satorius at the women’s flyweight (51kg).
Thailand’s men’s light flyweight (49kg) hope Thitisan Panmod defeated Philippines’ Criz Russu Laurente in the semi-final of the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships and the two Southeast Asian talents will have a repeat match in Budapest but in the first preliminary round.
Uzbekistan’s ASBC Asian Youth Champion Abdumalik Khalokov eliminated Mongolia’s Enkhtur Tegshjargal in the first preliminary round of the Bangkok 2018 ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships which was a superb contest in April. The Uzbek bantamweight (56kg) boxer needs to do his very best once again on their upcoming re-match in the Hungarian capital.
Japan’s 17-year-old Sora Tanaka was the Best Boxer in the Puerto Princesa 2017 ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships and he can start his campaign in Budapest against Bulgaria’s Ivan Atanasov at the light welterweight (64kg). Tanaka’s fights end several times by RSC or KO due his strength and powerful punches.
Uzbekistan’s AIBA Junior World Champion and ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships silver medallist Timur Merzhanov will have a strong rival as first Germany’s EUBC European Junior Champion at the light heavyweight (81kg). Kazakhstan’s ASBC Asian Youth Champion Damir Toybay also will be meeting with a tough rival United States’ Drake Banks in the preliminary stage of the super heavyweight (+91kg).
