The next edition of the Sri Lankan Layton Cup will be held in the Negombo Beach on October 4-5

The Layton Cup Boxing Tournament is one of the traditional competitions in Sri Lanka and the next edition is scheduled to be held on October 4-5.

The venue of the next edition of the Layton Cup will be held in the Negombo Beach not so far from their capital city, Colombo. The Boxing Association of Sri Lanka plans to increase the popularity of the sport in their homeland with these kind of marketing actions.

The official logo of the Layton Cup has been issued and the Boxing Association of Sri Lanka proudly presents their next top competition. The last edition of the Layton Cup was held in Colombo in 2023 and high number of women and men boxers competed in the event.

Sri Lanka sent record number of boxers to the recent ASBC Asian Junior & Schoolboys & Schoolgirls Boxing Championships and the country achieved one bronze medal in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates.

The President of Sri Lanka Boxing Mr. Anuruddha Shanaka Bandara is a very active official and he has strong strategic plans to develop the sport in the South Asian country.

R.A. Nadeeja Pushpakumari is one of their female national team members who could be the favourite at the women’s light flyweight (50kg) in Negombo. H.S. Priyadarshani (52kg) and L.I.N. Malshani (54kg), furthermore the veteran Muthuthanthri Sajeewani Cooray (60kg) are also well-experienced boxers in the women’s national team.

Umayanga Mihiran won two important bouts in the 2nd World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event in Bangkok and he was near to qualify for the Paris Olympics. The 21-year-old flyweight (51kg) talent is one of the Sri Lankan aces in our sport and he could be one of the stars in the upcoming Layton Cup. The Commonwealth Games competitor Podi Arachchige Rukmal Prasanna competed for Sri Lanka already at the 2017 ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships and the 25-year-old featherweight (57kg) boxer is another strength for the developing country.
