The Miroshnichenko Junior Memorial Tournament started with 17 contests in Kostanay
The Aleksandr Miroshnichenko Junior Memorial Tournament started with the participation of 108 boxers in the city of Kostanay, today. Seventeen preliminary and quarter-final bouts were featured in the first day of boxing in Kostanay, Kazakhstan.
Kostanay is one of the important boxing regions in Kazakhstan and their management already decided to host three international competitions in 2024. Mrs. Svetlana Mahleyt is the engine and the main organizer of the events in Kostanay and she supports the participating teams.
The competition is holding for the 2008 and 2009 born boxers in Kostanay in the upcoming days where five sessions are in the agenda. The junior international competition is running in 14 weight classes in Kostanay: 44kg, 46kg, 48kg, 50kg, 52kg, 54kg, 57kg, 60kg, 63kg, 66kg, 70kg, 75kg, 80kg and +80kg. The junior competition was named after Mr. Aleksandr “Alex” Miroshnichenko who claimed bronze medal at the Seoul 1988 Olympic Games and silver at the Moscow 1989 World Boxing Championships. The super heavyweight boxer who represented the Soviet Union during his career, died in Kostanay in 2003.
