The Indonesian National Games is underway in Pematang Siantar city

The Indonesian National Games is underway in the province of Aceh where the boxing event is one of the top sports and the first session has already concluded.

Aceh is located in the western part of the Sumatra island and it is famous for its beaches, diving sites, tropical nature and mountain areas.

Finally 31 teams entered to the National Games from all of the most important regions of the country, Java, Sumatra, Maluku, Papua, Bali, Sulawesi, Kalimantan and the capital team from Jakarta as well.

The team from the local region Aceh and the Sumatra island squad both contains 20-20 boxers in the National Games. More than 200 boxers, 91 female and 116 male elite pugilists are attending in the new edition of the Indonesian National Games.

The women’s boxers are able to participate from the minimumweight (48kg) up to the light middleweight (70kg) in the Games. The men’s boxers have eleven divisions in the event, they can compete from the minimumweight (48kg) up to the cruiserweight (86kg) in Aceh.

One of the Indonesian female national team members, Kalimantan’s Ratu Silpalau had a tough opener against Gracia Denada Rumbobiar at the women’s featherweight (57kg), but due to her great finish she won their meeting by 4:1 split decision.

Jesika Umbas, Merlin Tomatala and Bali’s Melania G. Langobiri were the winners at the women’s minimumweight (48kg) which is always the strongest category in Indonesia. The Asian Games bronze medallist Huswatun Hasanah won all of the three rounds against Merviana Efrida Nengsih at the women’s light welterweight (63kg).

The SEA Games winner Aldoms Suguro of Jakarta moved up to the bantamweight (54kg) and the experienced boxer had to do his very best also as Silpalau to win his first contest in Aceh. Suguro has twelve years of international experience which helped him to beat a difficult opponent, Ricco Kansil by 3:2 split decision.

Yaser Arafad, the Asian Games quarter-finalist Farrand Papendang, Iman Josua Simorangkir and Hartono Arsad were the winners in the preliminary round of the busy men’s light welterweight (63.5kg) in the first session of the event.

Indonesia’s top boxing star, the Southeast Asian Games gold medallist Maikhel Roberrd Muskita is also member of the Java team in the National Games and he is the main favourite at the men’s cruiserweight (86kg).
