The first ever Bahrain National Boxing Championships will start tomorrow
The Bahrain Boxing Federation never hosted any National Championships yet but their first ever edition will be coming soon in the upcoming days. The competition venue of the National Championships will be the Table Tennis Hall in Isa Town.
The Kingdom’s first National Boxing Championships will be held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khaled Bin Hamad Al Khalifa. The Bahrain Combat Sports Council and the General Sports Authority also support the Bahrain Boxing Federation in this event.
The first day of the National Championships is June 10, the semi-finals are scheduled in the next day on June 11. There is a rest day on June 12 before the day of the finals on June 13.
The country joined back to the international boxing business in the beginning of 2019 when a new management arranged the better environment for the sport.
Their first participation was at the 2019 edition of the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Bangkok which followed the first victories at the ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships later that year.
The year of 2021 delivered a breakthrough for them, Denys Latypov qualified for the Tokyo Olympic Games while one of their youngsters earned a historic bronze medal at the ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships in Dubai.
Bahrain’s two top male boxers such as Azat Makhmetov (51kg) and Denys Latypov (+92kg) were not able to qualify to the Paris Olympics through the three quota events. Latypov was near to make it happen at the 1st World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event but he failed in his last quarter-final bout in Busto Arsizio.
Mt. Tony Davis is the head coach of the national team who arranged several organizational matters for this first ever Bahrain National Championships.
Bahrain had dual matches, Royal Rumble competition and smaller regional competitions in the country but the 1st National Championships is a huge step on their developments.
