Boranbek and Nakayama amazed in the first youth semi-finals
Kazakhstan’s Beksultan Boranbek and Uzbekistan’s Muhammadgiyos Sobutkhanov opened the tenth competition day in Astana. The Kazakh finished the first round with good double shots and he had a tight advantage on the judges’ scorecards after three minutes. The Uzbek opened the second round in different rhythm but Boranbek increased his speed and he also landed enough shots to win the middle period. The Kazakh felt the distance better in this semi-final bout he became the first youth male finalist in Astana where he will now meet Japan’s Seiya Nakayama who won the battle of the southpaw boxers against Tajikistan’s unbeaten Meroj Sufijonov.
Raito Kataoka eliminated the star of the flyweight
Philippines’ Youth World Championships silver medallist Ronel Suyom is a native talent in our sport who had emotional triumphs in this competition. The 18-year-old Filipino was not in top shape in the first round today and his Japanese opponent, Raito Kataoka used that chance to take the lead on the scorecards. Both boxers have brilliant technical skills at the flyweight (51kg) and there were tiny differences between them today, only the Japanese looked more fresh. Kataoka eliminated the star of the weight class and he will meet for the title Iraq’s Abbas Qasim who used his longer hands to beat South Korea’s Jin Juan.
Samandar Olimov won an exciting battle at the bantamweight
Uzbekistan’s Samandar Olimov and India’s Ashish have excellent pedigree from the previous international competitions and both used their technical skills to land shots from their safest distance. The Indian southpaw won the first round by 4:1 in the scorecards but Olimov has done the same in the second therefore the final verdict was depended on their performance in the last three minutes. Ashish looked tired in the third round therefore Olimov will be the finalist at the bantamweight (54kg) together with Vietnam’s Tran Quang Loc.
Aziz Klychev amazed once again on his third contest in Astana
Turkmenistan’s Aziz Klychev eliminated favourites during his road to the semi-finals of the men’s featherweight (57kg). The 18-year-old boxer from Turkmenabat moved ahead more in comparison to his previous bouts but that switch was successful against Philippines’ John Paul Napoles in the first round. Klychev is new in the international events but he has more than 10 years of experience in the sport and he worked well enough to secure a final place for Turkmenistan. India’s Nikhil also joined the finals following his success over Chinese Taipei’s new youth flag bearer, Wang Kai Hsuan.
Anarbayev and Ilyasov will meet in a dream final
Kazakhstan’s Bakhtiyar Anarbayev earned his first ASBC medal still at the 2019 ASBC Asian Schoolboys Boxing Championships and he looked too experienced to Japan’s Akito Horie in the first round of their lightweight (60kg) semi-final. Anarbayev landed strong shots in the end of the first round and his height advantage was also decisive in the second against the strong Japanese. The 18-year-old Kazakh saved fuel for the final in the last round and he will need all of his skills against Uzbekistan’s Sayat Ilyasov for the gold medal.
ASBC Champions for the final of the light welterweight
Kazakhstan’s youth No.1 at the 2006 age group, the two-time ASBC Asian Junior Champion Torekhan Sabyrkhan reduced the fighting distance against Jordan’s Omar Al-Hadidi who is the tallest boxer at the light welterweight (63.5kg). The 17-year-old Kazakh had to use a different strategy today but he was good in that game play as well and he had the skills to eliminate Al-Hadidi by RSC. Sabyrkhan’s final opponent will be another ASBC Asian Champion boxer, Yashwardhan Singh who eliminated Japan’s Masatake Yoshizumi.
