The Dildabekov Prizes Youth Tournament starts with sixteen preliminary bouts today

The Dildabekov Prizes Youth Tournament started in the city of Turkestan where sixteen bouts scheduled for the first competition day. Kazakhstan’s four-time Asian Champion Torekhan Sabyrkhan is aiming for his next title and to defend his tournament gold medal in Turkestan.

The number of the participating boxers is 116 and the 2006 and the 2007 born boxers are eligible to compete in the Dildabekov Prizes Youth Tournament.

The new edition of the Dildabekov Prizes Youth Tournament covers all of the 13 male weight classes from the minimumweight (48kg) up to the super heavyweight (+92kg).

Mr. Mukhtarkhan Dildabekov was a famous Kazakh super heavyweight boxer in the end of the 1990s and beginning of the 2000s. He earned a silver at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, a gold at the Bangkok 1998 Asian Games, a silver at the Houston 1999 World Boxing Championships.

Altogether 118 boxers participated from all of the regions of Kazakhstan, but Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and China were also there in Turkestan one year ago in 2023. Boxers who were born in 2005 and in 2006 were eligible to participate in the last edition of the Dildabekov Prizes Youth Tournament in Turkestan in 2023 when Kazakhstan’s star Torekhan Sabyrkhan was the top star.

The Dildabekov Prizes Youth Tournament is one of the preparation events for the upcoming Youth World Boxing Championships and all of the teams are using the new edition as selections and to test their talents.

The UNESCO World Heritage site, Turkestan is one of the boxing cities in Kazakhstan which hosted several competitions in the previous year including the Bekzat Sattarkhanov Youth Memorial Tournament.

Two Kazakhs such as Dias Berikbay from the Zhetysu region and Nurbek Azadov from the Almaty region will open the tournament at the minimumweight (48kg) on Day1. Kazakhstan’s youth No.1 Torekhan Sabyrkhan will be boxing also in the first competition day, he will meet Adil Kasymov from the Pavlodar region in the preliminary round of the welterweight (67kg).
