The city of Qom hosted the Iranian Junior National Selection Tournament
The Iranians arranged national competitions and selection tournaments for their elite, youth and schoolboys earlier this year and the junior age group was the next in action. The smaller junior national selection event took place in Qom and thirteen boxers made a huge step forward to be involved to the squad.
The city of Qom was the host of the event this time which is located 140km south of Tehran and on the banks of the Qom river. The Iranian Boxing Federation is more active this year hosting national events which is the commitment of their new President and management.
The Iranians used the national selection competition for their first huge test before the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships. The continental event will be held in the capital city of Kazakhstan, in Astana starting from July 14. The Iranians earned medals in the previous ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships and their coaches are planning to show the strength of this Persian age group in Astana.
The junior national selection event was held in all of the thirteen official categories from the pinweight (46kg) up to the heavyweight (+80kg) for their 2007 and 2008 age groups. The Iranians are always stronger in the heavier weight categories which were won by Mohammad Mesbahi (66kg), Mahan Sajedi (70kg), Abdolrahman Dara (75kg), Parsa Naji (80kg) and Amirsom Ahmadvand (+80kg).
