The Cambodian team prepares to the SEA Games in Thailand
The Cambodian Boxing Federation sent their top elite male boxers to Thailand to prepare well in the neighbouring country to the Southeast Asian Games. The Southeast Asian Games will be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia which will be held in the second part of August which is the most important multisport competition of the region.
The General Secretary of the Cambodian Boxing Federation Mr. Sophoan Buy believes the training camp in Thailand could be successful for their boxers before the main event of the year. The Cambodian Boxing Federation separated from their traditional Khmer boxing in the recent months and has got a Cuban coach to develop their talents in the country.
Cambodia will be there in the boxing tournament of the Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur next month and the country is planning to send female athletes to the ASBC Asian Confederation Women’s Boxing Championships to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam which event will be taking place in November.
Nat Seik Nin competed in the last edition of the Southeast Asian Games in Singapore and since then he moved up to the bantamweight (56kg). Cambodia’s second boxer in the training camp is Phal Sophon who has got a few experiences also in the international level. The team has been training together with their Thai counterparts and with coach Mr. Ven Sophal.
Their third boxer is Felix Merlin Martinez was born in Cuba but has been fighting for Cambodia at the light heavyweight (81kg). Felix Merlin Martinez competed in several Cuban national events between 2009 and 2013 and his experiences could be paid-off in the upcoming Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur.
