The Cambodian Boxing Federation confirmed its national calendar for 2021

Mr. Sophoan Buy, the Secretary General of the Cambodian Boxing Federation confirmed the planned competition schedule of the country for 2021. The Cambodian Boxing Federation hopes to get some extra resources to arrange more national tournaments in the year of the Southeast Asian Games.

The Cambodian Boxing Federation plans to launch national tournaments for their best boxers from June, holding it each month to increase the activities of the athletes. The 2021 edition of the Cambodian National Boxing Championships is scheduled to be hosted in September two and half months before the Southeast Asian Games.

The excellent finals of the last edition of the Cambodian National Championships were held for their elite women and men boxers in their capital city in Phnom Penh in January 2021 which was the postponed 2020 edition. Following this National Championships, the next one will be held also this year in September.

Eight champions have been crowned in the last Cambodian National Championships in January including woman hope Nov Sreypov and 20-year-old Sao Raingsey at the men’s event. Cambodia’s teenage talent 18-year-old Penh Vanthung also claimed gold medal at the National Championships proving strong developments.

The Cambodians returned to the events with the National Championships and their boxers have been preparing hard to get good results at the 2021 Southeast Asian Games which will be held in Hanoi, Vietnam on the end of November and beginning December. The most important multisport event of the region is the key competition for the Cambodians in 2021. The Cambodian boxers have got long term strategic goals the 2023 Southeast Asian Games which will be held in the country at the very first time. The management of the Cambodian Boxing Federation developed a long term strategy in 2016 to develop boxing and make it more popular in the country before 2023. The last international participation of the Cambodian boxers was the 2019 Southeast Asian Games which was held in the Philippines but they are planning to send a team to the 2021 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships.
