The Boxing Family mourns Kazakhstan’s former boxer and coach Mr. Leonid Tleubayev who passed away at the age of 73. The management of the Asian Boxing Confederation and the whole Boxing Family send their condolences to Mr. Tleubayev’s family.
Mr. Leonid Tleubayev was born in the village of Tokarevka in the Karaganda region of the Kazakh SSR on June 8 in 1950. He entered the Technical School of Physical Education and Sports in Karaganda with the support of his first coach, Mr. Kazbek Ashlyayev, and competed in the Regional, Republican and National boxing events until 1976.
He was quarter-finalist with the squad of the Kazakh SSR in the 1969 Soviet Union National Team Championships. Tleubayev was selected to represent the USSR at the 1970 European Junior U20 Championships in Miskolc, Hungary. He represented the Soviet Union in dual matches against the United States in 1971 and he won the Republican Championships of the Kazakh SSR several times.
Tleubayev competed for the Kazakh SSR at the 1971 Soviet Union National Spartakyad in Moscow and also in the 1975 Tashkent edition. He claimed a bronze at the Leningrad International Tournament in 1971 and he earned another bronze medal at the welterweight (67kg) in the 1974 Soviet Union National Championships.
Following his active career, he worked as a boxing coach in Karaganda for 46 years and educated such stars as Serik Nurkazov, Beybut Yeszhanov, Dulat Borankulov and many others in Kazakhstan.
May his soul will rest in eternal peace in Kazakhstan.
