The Bahrain Domestic Event supported the selection for the ISF Gymnasiade

Nineteen contests were held at the Bahrain Domestic Event which was a selection event for the upcoming ISF Gymnasiade which will take place in the country for the very first time.

The ISF Gymnasiade is a multisport event and boxing is also in the official program on it therefore Bahrain made strong preparations in the previous months to make a memorable event for all of the nearly 200 participating boxers.

The Bahrain Boxing Federation hosted its first ever National Boxing Championships this June where the women’s elite, men’s youth and men’s elite boxers competed for the titles. Some of the champions from June returned to the Domestic Boxing Event to show their progress in the recent four months.

The Kingdom’s first National Boxing Championships was held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khaled Bin Hamad Al Khalifa. The Bahrain Combat Sports Council and the General Sports Authority also supported the Bahrain Boxing Federation in the National Championships and the Domestic Boxing Event continued their agenda.

The country joined back to the international boxing business in the beginning of 2019 when a new management arranged the better environment for the sport. Mr. Tony Davis is the head coach of the national team who arranged several organizational matters for this first ever Bahrain National Championships and he became the engine of the competition.

Round 1 Boxing Club’s Mohamed Attia, a boxer from the 2010 age group, won the lone schoolboy battle in the Domestic Boxing Event, he defeated Abdulaziz Bushaqer at the light middleweight (71kg).

James Ingham was the first winner among the junior boxers, he defeated Saudi Arabia’s Hazza Buhazza by unanimous decision but JD Boxing’s Mohamed Moamen was also too strong for his opponent, and made a good performance in the event.

Kuwait’s Bader Al Bader defeated Bahrain Self Defence’s Yaqoop Alamen in the final of the lightweight (60kg) in this Domestic Boxing Event where some neighbouring countries also attended. Kuwait’s second winner was Razan Al-Gharabally at the men’s elite heavyweight (92kg) after stopping Israel Okafor.

Another strong JD Boxing member, Youssef Bouzgarrou triumphed over Nikhil Waghnani at the youth light heavyweight (80kg) final on June and since then he moved down two categories. He had to do his very best to beat Ziad Elbadry from RMAC but his success means that he claimed two gold medals within four months.

Fahad Al-Abdulla was excellent in the elite finals but Yousef Al-Muhana delighted the show with his KO victory. Bahrain’s Augustine Isaac was unstoppable at the super heavyweight (+92kg), he smashed Amir Ndusya in the final of their National Championships a few months ago and he repeated the same in the Domestic Boxing event against Cedric Roshan.

Killa’s Michael Douglas won the second bout in the heaviest weight category, he defeated Kuwait’s Abdul Al-Shaya in their meeting unanimously.
