The Asian Boxing Family mourns Mr. Kaur Singh
The whole management of the Asian Boxing Confederation including the President Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira of Thailand and the Asian Boxing Family mourns Mr. Kaur Singh, the strong Indian boxer, who passed away at the age of 74.
Mr. Kaur Singh was born in 1948 and after his military duties, he earned gold medals in the Indian National Boxing Championships three-times. The heavyweight boxer joined the elite national team in 1979 and one year later he won the title at the Asian Boxing Championships in Mumbai.
Mr. Kaur Singh was the team captain of the Indian boxing team at the 1982 Asian Games in New Delhi where he defeated all of his opponents at the heavyweight, taking his second major international title. He received the Arjuna Award by the Indian Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in 1982 and another strong achievement, the Padma Shri Award for his outstanding performance and contribution in 1983.
The Indian boxer won two contests in the Los Angeles 1984 Olympic Games but failed to reach a historic medal in the United States which was his last event during his career. Mr. Kaur Singh had an exhibition bout against the US star Muhammad Ali in 1980 while his biographic film about his life, the Padma Shri Kaur Singh was released in 2022. May his soul will rest in eternal peace in India.
