The Asian Boxing Confederation congratulates to the newly elected President of the Boxing Association of Sri Lanka, Mr. Anuruddha Shanaka Bandara
The President of the Asian Boxing Confederation, Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira of Thailand, furthermore the whole ASBC management congratulate to the newly elected President of the Boxing Association of Sri Lanka, Mr. Anuruddha Shanaka Bandara who changes Mr. Dian Gomes in the office.
The 40-year-old Mr. Anuruddha Shanaka Bandara received 10 votes and his opponent, the former Vice-President of Sri Lanka Boxing, Mr. Wasantha Kumara received five votes during the elections which was supervised by the Election Committee and the Ministry of Sports.
Mr. Eric Perera and Commander Mr. Udaya Kumaratunga were elected as the Vice-Presidents of the Boxing Association of Sri Lanka.
The former South Asian Games medallist team captain boxer, D.I.G. Saman Gunaratne was elected as the new Secretary General of the Boxing Association of Sri Lanka. The Assistant Secretary General of the Association is a boxing coach, Mr. Brig. Kasun Adhikari.
Mr. Amila Randika Dissanayaka was elected as the Treasurer of the Boxing Association of Sri Lanka and he will be supported by the Assistant Treasurer, Mr. Vanoj Dharshana Premachandra.
The new Sri Lankan President is the Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka in Guinea and he is a former schools boxing champion from the Jayaweera Boxing Meeting. He studied at the Medigiriya Central College and Royal College in the historic Sri Lankan city of Polonnaruwa and he worked also as a boxing coach.
The Sri Lankans competed in the recent editions of the Commonwealth Games, Asian Games and ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships with smaller delegations.
Sri Lanka registered two boxers to the 2nd World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event to Bangkok and both competed in Thailand’s capital. Their 20-year-old promising star, Umayanga Mihiran was excellent in the 2nd World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event in Bangkok, Thailand where he won two preliminary contests against more experienced rivals and he lost to an Iranian boxer only in the Round of 16 following his advantage in the first round.
