The ASBC sends its sincere condolence to the victims of the Myanmar earthquake which affected the Southeast Asian region

The management of the Asian Boxing Confederation sends its sincere condolence to the victims of the so-called Myanmar earthquake which affected several parts of the Southeast Asian region especially Myanmar, Thailand, Bangladesh and southwestern China.
A strong 7.7 magnitudes earthquake hits the Sagaing region of Myanmar and its epicentre was close to the city of Mandalay. Authorities of both Myanmar and Thailand declared emergency situation due to the earthquake and these countries are still expecting post-seismic waves and aftershocks.
Myanmar is located between four tectonic plates and the active geological processes were held in 10km deep in the middle of the country.
More than 2,000 people died in this serious earthquake in Myanmar and also 17 in the neighbouring Thailand. Hundreds of homes were also damaged in the Yunnan province in China and the death tolls could be risen as many people are still missing. Shaking was felt in Bangladesh, India, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and even in north part of Malaysia.
Myanmar hosted the 2013 Southeast Asian Games in Nay Pyi Taw and their training centre in the capital has highly damaged. Myanmar’s best 15 boxers trained in the national training centre in Nay Pyi Taw when the earthquake hit the facilities. According to the President of the Myanmar Boxing Federation the boxers had only smaller injuries but there are not any power and water supply in the training centre.
The Thai Boxing family confirmed yesterday and today their boxers, coaches and officials are fine after the earthquake and its aftershocks.
It was the second deadliest and the most powerful earthquake in Myanmar’s history since 1912. The Asian Boxing Confederation sends its sympathy to the local boxing federations and will cooperate with them in the upcoming days.
