The Arab Sports Games opens with 15 bouts today

The boxing tournament of the Arab Sports Games will start in Algeria’s capital in Algiers today. The Asian teams will use the event as one of their preparations for the upcoming Asian Games therefore all of the stars from Jordan, Syria and Iraq are also in the venue of the Arab Sports Games.

The multisport event opened on July 5 but the first competition day in the boxing tournament of the Games is July 7. The women’s and the men’s finals will be held on the sixth competition day on July 12. The number of the women boxers is 27 in the Arab Sports Games and the female boxing will make its debut in the official program.

Host Algeria, Iraq, Jordan, Libya, Morocco, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates and Yemen are the participating nations in the boxing tournament of the Arab Sports Games.

Jordan’s best boxers such as the historic medallist in the World Boxing Championships Mohammad Adnan Abu Jajeh, the two-time Olympian and ASBC Asian Champion Hussein Iashaish, the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Qualifier winner Zeyad Eshaish and the Tokyo Olympian Odai Riyad Al-Hindawi are all members of the team in the Games.

Syria’s Mediterranean Games winner Ahmad Ghossoun will compete at the middleweight (75kg) while his elder brother Alaaldin Ghossoun is one of the favourites at the men’s heavyweight (92kg) in Algiers.

Iraq’s best boxers such as the experienced Jaafar Ali Al-Sudani (60kg) ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships silver medallist Ali Qasim Hamdan Al-Sarray (63.5kg), and the former Junior World Boxing Championships silver medallist Sahm Qarrar Khadim Al-Ezirej are all on the board of the Games.

The talented Jenin Heck represented Germany in the top youth and U22 competitions in the recent years, she is European U22 Champion from 2022 but returned to her roots and switched her country. The 20-year-old lightweight (60kg) boxer will compete for Palestine in the Arab Sports Games.

The first competition day contains 15 contests in the Arab Sports Games and will be held in Algiers today.
