The 35th Penang Pesta Tournament started with its first session

The 35th Penang Pesta International Tournament opened with its first session in Malaysia’s picturesque island and the local boxers shined in the first day of boxing.

The Penang Amateur Boxing Association was established in 1951 and their staff has been organizing the Penang Pesta Tournament since 1989.

Boxers from the U22 age group are eligible to participate in the upcoming event which means the 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007 born pugilists can test themselves in Penang.

The island of Penang is one of the boxing capitals in Malaysia, the region hosted several national competition and international events in the last decade.

The elite male boxers will be able to compete in the following weight categories: 48kg, 51kg, 54kg, 57kg, 60kg, 63.5kg, 67kg, 71kg, 75kg, 80kg, 86kg and 92kg.

Singapore’s Muhammad Nasmi Bin Mohamed Madani spent a short time in the ring in his debuting contest at the minimumweight (48kg) and the referee stopped the bout against Muhammad Yazid Ikmal, confirming his RSC triumph.

Muhammad Qarey Myqaeel Bin Mohamed Faizal became the first local winner in the competition, the Penang-based boxer eliminated Mohammad Fiqrie Bin Mohammad Redzuan at the men’s flyweight (51kg).

Mohamad Rizal Bin Wahibi is not only one of the best hopes from the team Penang but he is also member of the Malaysian national squad. The young bantamweight (54kg) boxer won all of the three rounds against Singapore’s Reuben Haruaki Kobayashi and he managed his pathway to the next stage of boxing.

Singapore’s Joseph Nikhil James demonstrated his power against Muhammad Haikal Hakimi Mohammad Noor in the first round and all of the judges favoured him 10:8 on the scorecards. The Singaporean featherweight (57kg) boxer finished the bout in the second round with heavy punches and James won this contest by RSC.

An Army boxer, Ahmad Firdaus Azim Bin Ismail walked over to the next round at the featherweight (57kg) following his opponent from Chinese Taipei, Lai Bing Chen was unable to box against him in the session.

The number of the spectators was 5,000 in the successful first competition day in the island of Penang.
