The 24 best Uzbek male boxers train in Yangiabad before their final camp in Amman
Uzbekistan has got plenty of high hopes in the upcoming Asian & Oceanian Olympic Qualification Event which is scheduled to be held in Amman, Jordan on March 3-11. The Uzbek boxing team has been preparing full speed in Yangiabad near to Tashkent in the mountains before their final camp in Amman.
Uzbekistan claimed three gold medals in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and repeated the same performance in the Yekaterinburg 2019 AIBA World Boxing Championships which means their expectations are high in Amman. Uzbekistan topped the team rankings also at the Bangkok 2019 ASBC Asian Men’s Elite Boxing Championships.
The Uzbek team trained with Cuba, Kazakhstan and Hungary in Yangiabad after the Yekaterinburg 2019 AIBA World Boxing Championships finalizing last year. Uzbekistan Boxing Federation hosted also their Men’s Elite National Championships last October to test their future hopes against world class opponents.
A total number of 24 boxers are in the current training camp in Yangiabad including all of their big stars and future talents. The Uzbek coaches will be deciding their final participating squad after the two last training camps but they have many options in all of the eight men’s categories from the flyweight (52kg) up to the super heavyweight (+91kg).
Shakhobiddin Zoirov is the defending AIBA World Champion and Olympic Games winner at the flyweight (52kg) but former successful WSB boxer Abrorjon Kodirov and National Champion Foziljon Abdumurodov are also there in the training camp. AIBA World Champion and ASBC Asian Champion Mirazizbek Mirzakhalilov is their top boxer at the bantamweight (57kg) but National Champion Oybek Jurayev is also a big future hope.
Uzbekistan had relatively few issues at the lightweight (63kg) in the recent two years but Asian Games silver medallist Shunkor Abdurasulov, Doha 2015 AIBA World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Elnur Abduraimov and former AIBA Junior World Champion Aliyor Noraliyev are there in their training camp in Yangiabad.
Asian Games winner and AIBA World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Bobo-Usmon Baturov and two-time ASBC Asian Youth Champion promising Bilolbek Mirzarakhimov are their best hopes at the welterweight (69kg) currently. The middleweight (75kg) was not so successful for the Uzbeks in the last two years but their coaches have four options to decide the participant in Amman.
AIBA World Boxing Championships silver medallist Dilshodbek Ruzmetov and World Military Games winner Kozimbek Mardonov both are experienced boxers at the light heavyweight (81kg) in spite of their young age. Hamburg 2017 AIBA World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Sanjar Tursunov, World Military Games winner Madiyar Saidrakhimov and National Champion Jamshidbek Abdullayev are their best hopes at the heavyweight (91kg). The defending AIBA World Champion of the super heavyweight (+91kg) Bakhodir Jalolov trains also hard to achieve his main objectives in 2020.
The Uzbek boxing team will be flying to Jordan’s capital to Amman on February 16 to acclimatize to the local venues, environments and train with other national teams before the start of the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Qualification Event.
