The 23rd Bekzat Sattarkhanov Memorial Tournament will take place in the city of Turkestan between March 30 and April 4.
Turkestan is located in the southern part of Kazakhstan and the historic city is part of the UNESCO World Heritage. The city hosts several boxing events every year including the Abdusalam Nurmakhanov Memorial, the Dildabekov Prizes Tournament and the Bekzat Sattarkhanov.
The competition is dedicated to Mr. Bekzat Sattarkhanov who was gold medallist in the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games but he died in a car crash a few months later of his glory before his 20th birthday.
Mr. Bekzat Sattarkhanov delivered one of the best performances in that Olympics 25 years ago and he defeated all of the stars in Sydney. The first edition of the Bekzat Sattarkhanov Youth Memorial Tournament was introduced short after his death.
The youth memorial tournament will recognize high number of talents and the competition has the possibility to meet against well-experienced boxers and increase their international experience as well.
The boxers who were born in 2007 and in 2008 will be eligible to participate in the Bekzat Sattarkhanov Youth Memorial Tournament this year.
The last edition of the Bekzat Sattarkhanov Youth Memorial Tournament took place in the beginning of April in 2024.
The local boxers from the Turkistan region earned four gold medals in the event and topped the team rankings ahead of Almaty region, Dzhambul and Mangystau regions one year ago.
Altogether 36 female and 186 male boxers competed in the last edition of the Bekzat Sattarkhanov Youth Memorial Tournament in Turkestan. Six female and thirteen male boxers earned their gold medals including last year’s youth stars as Yelyanur Turganova, Shugyla Nalibay, Dias Berikbay and Akhmet Ussen as well.
