The 23rd Bekzat Sattarkhanov Youth Memorial Tournament opened with 65 bouts

Sixty-five tough contests were held in the opening day of the 23rd Bekzat Sattarkhanov Memorial Tournament in the city of Turkistan.
Turkistan is located in the southern part of Kazakhstan and the historic city is part of the UNESCO World Heritage. The boxers who were born in 2007 and in 2008 are eligible to participate in the Bekzat Sattarkhanov Youth Memorial Tournament this year.
The competition is dedicated to Mr. Bekzat Sattarkhanov who was gold medallist in the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games but he died in a car crash a few months later of his glory before his 20th birthday.
Mr. Bekzat Sattarkhanov delivered one of the best performances in that Olympics 25 years ago and he defeated all of the stars in Sydney. The first edition of the Bekzat Sattarkhanov Youth Memorial Tournament was introduced short after his death.
Almaty region’s Gulzat Akbarova won the first female contest of the Sattarkhanov Youth Memorial Tournament, she eliminated Kyrgyzstan’s Nurayim Osmanova at the light flyweight (50kg). Madira Zhumakhan won the nest Kazakhstan vs. Kyrgyzstan battle over Aliya Saliyeva in the same weight category.
Mongolia’s ASBC medallist Lkham Tsenbaatar dominated her light flyweight (50kg) contest against Shymkent’s Anna Savchenko and the referee stopped their bout in the second round. Uzbekistan’s No.1 in this weight class, Mukhtasar Aliyeva thrashed Almaty region’s Lazzat Sarsembay and she joined the next round of boxing.
The women’s featherweight (57kg) is also a strong category in Turkistan where the Uzbek girls shined with great performance. Their Farangiz Tulkinova stopped Zhansaya Onlassyn in the third round before Robiya Ravshanova eliminated Akerke Adilkhankyzy in Turkistan. The main favourite of the category, Kazakhstan’s Asian Youth Champion Ayazhan Sydyk walked over to the next stage of boxing against Regina Tibenova of the Almaty region.
Uzbekistan’s Odilshokh Kholimov had a tough battle against Almaty’s Yedige Kartabay but finally his hand was raised after the last gong. A talent in the same minimumweight (48kg), Turkistan region’s Nursultan Seitbek proved his progress against Yerzhan Dzhangaliyev to win their meeting by unanimous decision.
Dias Alpysbay claimed a silver medal at the Yeskin Youth Memorial Tournament earlier this year and he is aiming for a gold in Turkistan. The minimumweight (48kg) boxer won two out of the three rounds against Akberdi Suleymenov of Turkistan region to celebrate his triumph.
Kyrgyzstan’s Junior World bronze medallist Dilerbek Sadirov used his strength to stop Yelkhan Utigenov at the light welterweight (63.5kg). Kazakhstan’s Ykylas Bolat, Magzhan Sautbek, Dossymzhan Sadirbay and Damir Nurmukhamed also advanced to the next round in this weight class.
Sarmat Urazayev defeated a more experienced rival Kenesaryamir Marzhikpayev of Astana and he delivered the main sensation of the welterweight (67kg) on Day1. Karagandy region’s Bakdaulet Askarov also won his bout by 3:2 split decision over Shymkent’s Didar Turdabek as Urazayev.
