The 12th Serik Sapiyev Prizes Junior Tournament was a fantastic event in Karagandy and four nations shared the titles

The 12th edition of the Serik Sapiyev Prizes Junior Tournament was a fantastic event in Karagandy, Kazakhstan where four nations shared the gold medals.  

The new edition of the Serik Sapiyev Prizes Junior Tournament was exceeded all of the previous entry figures and the number of the participants exceeded the 300 in Karagandy.

Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan were the participating nations in the 12th Serik Sapiyev Prizes Junior Tournament. The 2009 and 2010 born boxers were eligible to participate in the Serik Sapiyev Prizes Junior Tournament.

The last edition of the event was a success in the heart of Kazakhstan and the busy organizers arranged the competition in the Karaganda Boxing Development Center in 2023.

The main goal of the event is to find new talents and support to increase the international experience of these young 14 and 15-year-old talents. The organizers of Serik Sapiyev Prizes Tournament were the Karaganda Regional Boxing Federation and the Department of Sports of the Karaganda Region.

Mr. Serik Sapiyev was Kazakhstan’s boxing icon between 2005 and 2012 who earned gold medals in all of the major championships. He bagged a title at the London 2012 Olympic Games where he was awarded the best boxer trophy, the Val Barker Award as well. He won the World Elite Championships in 2005 and in 2007, the Asian Games in 2010 and the ASBC Asian Boxing Championships twice during his career.

The women’s boxers are also added to the official program of the Serik Sapiyev Prizes Junior Tournament in Karagandy where three countries won the four weight divisions. The 14-year-old Yana Lygina of Kazakhstan won the first female title at the pinweight (46kg), she defeated Kausar Meyram by 4:1 split decision.

Uzbekistan’s Asila Murodullayeva is a 15-year-old talent who had the great finish to beat Gulnaz Karabayeva at the women’s flyweight (50kg). Her teammate, Shokhjakhon Islomov achieved the country’s second title in Karagandy, he bagged the gold at the men’s heavyweight (+80kg).

Tajikistan’s Furug Sarkhatzoda is a 14-year-old super talented girl who defeated one of the top talents, Zhasmin Nurgazina at the women’s lightweight (60kg). The Georgians also acquired one gold medal in Karagandy, their Zaza Mdinaridze had the success at the boys’ pinweight (46kg) over Ulan Serikbay.

A local Karagandy boxer, Nurbol Nurzhanov had a big battle against Uzbekistan’s Sakhibjon Sattorov at the men’s 44kg weight class but Temirlan Amen (54kg) and Daniil Shulezhko (66kg) also kept the gold medals in the host city.
