Thais, other Asians keep momentum on Bocskai Day 2
Thailand’s national stars Jutamas Jitpong, Sarawut Sukthet and Khunatip Pidnuch posted impressive performances on the second competition day of the 67th Bocskai Istvàn Memorial Tournament in Debrecen, Hungary.
Women’s World Championships and Asian Elite Championships 2022 silver medalist Jitpong used her quickness to score her first victory at the expense of Australia’s Antonia Konstantopoulou, 4-1, in the bantamweight (54kg) division.
ASBC youth champion and Youth Olympics silver finisher Sarawut Sukthet subdued Ukraine’s Oleg Chulyacheyev, 4-1, for a triumphant opening in men’s featherweight (57kg).
Southeast Asian Games silver winner Pidnuch came up with a 5-0 decimation of Kyrgyzstan’s Ryspek Bektenov to get a headstart in light welterweight (63.5kg).
Meanwhile, world and Asian elite silver medalist Serik Temirzhanov of Kazakhstan banked on his speed to thrash Azerbaijan’s Azrak Babirov, 5-0, in featherweight.
Another Kazakh bet in former Asian elite champion Rimma Volossenko continued her winning ways against Poland’s Zaklina Kociolek, 5-0, in women’s lightweight (60kg).
Kazakhstan’s Nurbek Oralbay is a key boxer at the men’s light heavyweight (80kg) in the Bocskai Memorial Tournament and he followed the strategy step by step against Finland’s Nikita Nystedt.
Uzbekistan’s reigning Asian youth and youth world silver finisher Rakhmatullo Boymatov also earned his second victory after taking a 3-2 split decision over Serbia’s Vladimir Mironchikov to march into the men’s light heavyweight (80kg) quarterfinals.
Uzbekistan’s Komronbek Turgunboyev was a surprise medallist at the 2022 Golden Belt Tournament in Romania and he received the right to attend in an international competition once again. He is only 19 but his punching power is one of the bests at the men’s light middleweight (71kg) which he proved against Australia’s Mark Borg in the second day of boxing, finishing the contest in the first round.
Uzbekistan’s next boxer who succeeded in the second competition day, was Samandar Kholmurodov, who eliminated Poland’s Jaroslaw Iwanow at the men’s featherweight (57kg).
